Gaterade G3 protein water

Recommended Posts

Just picked up some Gatorade G3 at the supermarket. It has 16g Protein per bottle for 120 calories. At $2 per bottle (on special at Jewel) it is certainly cheaper than the GNC fruit flavored Protein Drinks. It seems like a good choice for me when I am out and don't have my Special K protein Water mix with me (or a bottle to mix it in).

How does it taste?

The flavors are lemon-lime/orange or strawberry/kiwi. I have only tried the lemon-lime/orange so far. It is sweetened with glucose so it tastes a little sweet to me. It is less "salty" and more sweet than regular gaterade.

I thought we were supposed to stay away from or highly limit sugar in our diets? At least that's what I remember them saying in the WLS class I had to take in order to be approved for surgery. Am I wrong in this?

Yes I was told the same thing too. I am not even supposed to have regular Slim Fast because it has too much sugar. I am just saying the Gatorade G3 is probably OK in a pinch if you cannot find anything else.

You have to check the sugar content out. I know this is a very easy way to get Protein but it could have negative effects on your weight loss.. I usually try to get just limited number of sugars..say under 5 grams. You have to also check the sodium content in them also. They will make you retain fluids.

You're right, at 14g carbs per container these should be avoided. I guess a carton of non-fat milk would be better if you can stand it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
