Hi all,

I am 44 years old, married have 2 boys, ages 16 & 11. I've been consistently gaining weight since the birth of my first son when I gained 65 lbs and only lost 10.

I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bad hip, and hurting knees.

I've been researching weight loss surgery for 2 years, and finally made my decision back in April.

My insurance approved me before the Dr., even sent in the paperwork. They approved it by the letter sent to them saying I wanted a referral.

Anyway, I'm excited because my surgery is next week, Thursday the 29th.

Kathy:)

Welcome! I am sure everything will go very well. I too have two children. A boy and a girl ages seven and five. It is a difficult decison to make whether to have the surgery. I was banded on 4/10/06. I have been overweight my entire life. I was able to lose weight with Weight Watchers over the years, but after I had a total hysterectomy in April 2005 I kept gaining and gaining.

Good Luck!

Jess

Congratulations Kat17 :clap2: . I too am new to this site. I had my consultation yesterday. Completed my EKG and blood work all in the same day. I have UHC insurance and have been told that it will more than likely not be a problem seeking approval. The doctor advised me to not purchase anymore bras from this point. I am so looking forward to receiving my surgery date. Hopefully I will get a date by or before the first week of September. My BMI is 43. I'm 33 yrs old, divorced and 237pds w/ a 16yr old son living in the Dallas, TX area.

:) Hi Kathy

nice to here from you :clap2: :)

I am quite new too. I have had a weight problem all my life, and have a number of the same complaints sleep apnea, high blood presure and joint problems.

I am 36, I am being banded on 8th July,:) I am self funding.

I don't know if you can help me :help: with my question. I weight 348lb and I am really worried I wont reach my goal of 154lb and may have loose skin. I was wondering if excersie is enough to reduce the effects. As i store most of my weight on my stomack. :paranoid

The surgeon was trying to encourage me to have the bypass. I am very relucant to this procedure. the weight loss is rapid and the skin would definately be loose skin. :cry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
