OMG please tell me it's normal and will go away...

Recommended Posts

The past couple of days I have had a horrible sour stomach. I have tried pepto and recieved no relief with it. On top of dealing with that I am dealing with acid reflux again. I was just getting over it when I went into the hospital. While I was there it came back twice as bad as it was before. Now my teeth feel yucky all the time. Like I haven't brushed them in weeks. When in fact I just got finished brushing them. I don't know if this is normal I just want to know will it go away? And what in the world can I do to get rid of this sour stomach?

If you not taking a ppi you should talk with your doc to see if he can get you on one..

yep, yep, yep -- gotta agree with everyone -- PPI is the way to go -- like Prevacid or Nexium. :) Feel better!

I can't help you with the sour stomach (but from reading others experiences, I think it is normal and can be controlled with a PPI), but I can answer the fuzzy teeth thing. OMG. I hated that. It is a mixture of being in ketosis (your body burning fat) and doing Protein Shakes, and IT WILL IMPROVE. When your diet becomes more varied, it will gradually disappear. I found that breath mints were my new friends that traveled with me everywhere. ;)

I am on a ppi "nexium" it works wonderful I just wake up with the tast of acid in my mouth. On top of my teeth feeling nasty it's not a good combo.. Today however the heartburn has been horrible. Sour stomach as well. I want it to all hurry up and become a memory not a big part of my life on a daily basis..

You could take some Maalox too chewables in between. I find that helps. You may also need a higher dose. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor and be blunt about how bad it is. I had the same issues and had to go to a higher dose and I added Carafate 4 times a day as well. If your PPI is in the form of a capsule, change to a tablet. This is huge.

Make sure you don't eat a couple of hours before bed and if you can handle it, elevate your upper body while you sleep. Foods to avoid: anything with a Tomato base/sauce, high fat, citrus of any kind, sugar, coffee. If you are a milk drinker, switch to lactose free.

hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
