DougNichols 124 Posted February 19, 2011 My pre-op was FOUR weeks, and I had THREE weeks of pure liquids. I'm DYING FOR SOME FOOD!
PamelaAM 16 Posted February 19, 2011 I ended up starting 3 days early per my surgeon. I was on liquid for only 2 weeks after surgery. You should be fine. Just take it really slow.
tntransplant06 20 Posted February 19, 2011 I did, just puree everything. I did that for about 4 days and then I just chose really soft stuff and chewed it to a pulp. Just go slowly and stop before you are full.
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted February 19, 2011 Don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty sure I started mushies 2 or 3 days early.
k8bwalsh 1 Posted February 19, 2011 I couldn't follow it either....not proud and wouldn't recommend it, but I was supposed to have 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks pureed and 2 weeks of soft food before being 'unrestricted.' > I sort of 'skipped' the pureed phase....I started eating soft foods like eggs and crab legs and string cheese. I took it really slow and tried one thing at a time, and only a little bit at a time. So far, no ill effects. I was sleeved 23 days ago....
Billy363627 15 Posted February 19, 2011 I understand wanting to start early. I am going with my doctor..2 weeks clears 2 weeks thick clears, 2 weeks soft foods, then regular food.. I don't want a couple of days to get in my way of healing..I guess I am a buzz kill..lol I just don't want a delay to me getting regular foods because I jumped the gun..I am not borrowing any trouble for a couple of days. learningintuition 5 Posted February 19, 2011 yeah, I did mine early but take it slow. Look up on google for a list and recipes. It gets boring fast!
ThatDudesMom 13 Posted February 19, 2011 I was supposed to to do clears for a week, fulls for two weeks, and mushies for three weeks. After about 4 days of clears I called and asked if I could be advanced to fulls because I was doing well. The nurse said that my doctor was out for the day, but that if he were in he would probably say go ahead, but she, as the nurse would say to wait because she is the one that has seen the patients who have tried to push it. I went ahead and started full liquid because I knew I was ready. Then when I went in for my first follow up which was 10 days post op my doctor told me I could move to mushies. I went for my second follow up last week, one months and one day after surgery, and I was told i no longer had restrictions. I can eat what I want now and do any activity I want. I really think you can tell what you are ready for and what you are not ready for. And, if you make a mistake, you'll know it pretty quickly!
bilka 6 Posted February 19, 2011 As I see everyone is different, and I guess if you really fell ready you can try mushies, if it doesn't work you go back to liquids for the week... My doctor told me to introduce a piece at the time when I introduce new food, just to test if it's ok. Right now I am 11 days out and still on liquids until the end end of week 2. Then I have 4 weeks of mushies in front of me and after that other 3/4 weeks of soft/pureed food. I intend to stick to it. I do miss chewing, I can still "drink" for 3 days but 3 weeks would have probably been too long. I kind of feel ready for mushies now too.
PatrickG 5 Posted February 19, 2011 I started yogurt 5 days after my surgery (2 days early). Just go slow. The first few times I ate too fast and got bad hick-ups until the food went down.
DougNichols 124 Posted February 19, 2011 Yeah it's taking 30 minutes to finish a single serving cup of pudding. Gonna be a long process ...
M2G 1,836 Posted February 19, 2011 I was the opposite, I needed liquids only for 1 week post-op and I waited until 10 days out to start mushies because I was SCARED. lol And I remember being SO excited for mushies but at the end of 2 weeks (my surgeon only allowed 5 foods for the mushie phase) I was so sick of refried Beans, cottage chesse, etc. I was ready for soft food, but again was scared. Just take it slow and easy you will be fine. 3 full weeks of pure liquid sound like = pure torture. I feel for ya!
chilo1 62 Posted February 19, 2011 I started mushies straight away (day 2 post op) but those are my surgeons guidelines
