Anyone have a food you sleeve didn't like???

Recommended Posts

I am about seven weeks out. Today I tried some hamburger meat for the first time. I made a hamburger patty with some cheese on top. I was only able to eat about 1/3. I started to feel like the meat was stuck. Then I starting sliming (which I have never had happen with the sleeve). I eventually threw all of it up. NOT fun! Anyone else had an experience like this? What foods caused it? I don't know if it was just too soon for hamburger meat or if my sleeve just doesn't like it. Any thoughts appreciated. I haven't had any food intolerances until today and I am not sick. Thanks!

I am 6 weeks out and had hamburger meat with no problem. I took TINY bites and chewed like crazy. Although I have not vomited, I did have one occasion where I was eating a Lean Cuisine fish this week and I guess I took one bite too many and literally choked the last bite up. It was very weird. Not a vomit (sorry TMI). I felt a little uneasy but then after about 20 minutes I was fine. I won't make that mistake again.

Scrambled eggs killed me after surgery (why does the doctor recommend them?) but egg salad does not. I have not tried scrambled eggs lately though....

Good luck

Maybe I ate too fast since I was really hungry...I probably need to take TINY bites! -And sorry for the typo in the title. It should say "your" instead of "you". LOL

yeah i hate sliming! i've slimed twice now, once when i had that one too many bites of can green Beans, and then i had it again the other day with a small portion of rice and sausage bites! the only thing that comes back up for me is just the overwhelming amount of slime lol

All that ground meat bits just feel nasty in my mouth now that I chew so much. No problem to the sleeve though.

Interestingly enough barbecue is one thing I used to love and have to be careful with, no matter how well I chew...things tend to become stationary in my throat and for some reason it hurts, this has happened with chicken and beef, shrimp seems to be the most enjoyable for me. Even an ahi tuna fillet is kind of rough going down. Another one that likes to swell and get stuck is anything with flour, crackers, bread etc so needless to say I don't go there I think they pump that stuff with hormones or something horrible feeling. sad.gif

I tried a tater tot and that made me hurl. Dang it! LOL. I haven't tried hamburger yet, but I did eat some very tender roast beef and that stayed down. Hormel makes some prepackaged/cooked meats that are in the meat section that are really good. They are cooked tender and taste pretty good. They have pork (which I haven't eaten yet), beef tips, beef stroganoff, and meatloaf. I've tried the last three and all were really good.

I tried a hot dog cut into small pieces and had the same thing happen to me. It's not fun and hopefully I will be able to enjoy a hot dog again, but as for not I am staying away from it. I've also had milk do me that way. Which is strange because I can eat dairy just can't drink it??

I just had this discussion with my physician today. I will be 8 weeks out on Thursday, and hamburger meat HATES me. She said many people that have the sleeve can not tolerate hamburger meat. It's just a really dense, drier meat apparently. I also have issues with scrambled eggs, and hot dogs. No matter how small the bite or how much I chew. I had an EGD done today, and everything looks GREAT, so I know it's not a sleeve issue. Guess I will just have to avoid those foods.

Geez.. you guys. How do you even go about trying things? I'm sooo scared of vomiting that I may never eat again after I have this surgery. Has anyone ever died of starvation after this surgery? LOL. I may be the first!

Maybe you did eat to fast. That happened to me when I eat to fast. For me hamburger meat works real good with my sleeve. My new favorite thing to make is chili. I cannot eat bananas or sprimp. I also cannot eat pork or roast beef. But I will slowing try to include them again in my diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
