Bridgeta1975 0 Posted February 18, 2011 I went for my last Dr. appointment today before my gastric bypass on MONDAY and low and behold he advised me to have the sleeve instead. After explaining that there are lower risks and similar benefits I agreed. Now I'm panicing a little because I am having it in two days! Just could use some support is all! MINI-Me 196 Posted February 18, 2011 Did your surgeon say why they wanted to change the type of surgery at the last minute? For me, the sleeve was the way to go. No issues with a foreign object and no re-route of my body (plus, RYN "seems" to have a lot of regain due to pouch stretching - but I don't have any statistical analysis, just observations). I'm sure you have lots of questions. Shoot them out to us, we're glad to help!
Bridgeta1975 0 Posted February 19, 2011 I guess the insurance person sent it in wrong to my insurance. She was under the impression that a person with my high BMI 59 had the sleeve done because of the risk. Thats how it all got started. So when he came in the room he was confused as to why I wanted bypass. He told me very good info on why I needed to have the sleeve done and i agreed. I was just prepared for bypass and knew all about it. I guess I'm just a little shell shocked with the last minute switch. He told me less risk, more likely to not be open, basically the same results as the band with no anatomy being rearranged. Like I said, not regretting it by any means just sunk in when I got home.
