That is great! How are you feeling overall with pain, etc. and how has it been getting used to the new way of eating/drinking?

Do they expect the reflux to lessen eventually? That is awesome the pain lasted under a week, makes me optimistic about returning to work in a short amount of time.

Hi All! I'm from Harbor Springs Michigan. I'm just starting to jump through the hoops and get the process rolling. I am going through Weight Loss Services at Mclaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey. I wanted to stop in and say, "hi," to the other Michiganders. :)

Hey everyone! I've been looking for some kind of support group online and I just found this site!

For my insurance I was required to have 8 months of medical documentation and December will be month five. I've had my psych evaluation and everything else and I've been cleared for surgery at this point, and I'll be done with my documentation in March and then I will be able to schedule surgery. So at this point I'm thinking my actual surgery will be in May or June!

Up until last week I really hadn't been taking surgery seriously because I was in the mindset that it was so far away, or that it just wouldn't happen for whatever reason, or just the fact that I honestly cannot even imagine being any other size so it all seems to unbelievable to me. But since I saw my doc last it has finally hit me that this is happening, if I want it to. And I've finally decided this is what I really want and I'm now allowing myself to get excited about it.

It's just crazy to imagine. I think that's going to be the hardest thing for me; learning to let go of how I've viewed myself for the last 25 years. I've always been big, so my weight has been a part of who I am and how I deal with things for so long. But I'm excited for this new, HUGE life change. Terrified, but also excited. Haha.

Anyway, I'm happy to have found this site and be able to talk to people who are going through, or have gone through, the same thing.

-Mary

Hi, Mary! I relate to much of what you are feeling. I have been doing the supervised diet counseling since July, skipped August-October b/c I misunderstood what was needed, and didn't get excited until about two weeks ago when I was finally given a date for surgery. I am going in May. I would love to hear how things are going for you pre- and post-op.

I will be having my surgery in Petoskey by Dr. Baker. I am so pumped!

HI Carol - congratulations on your success! Half way to goal has to feel great! I was lucky that I didn't have a waiting period and my insurance covered the procedure. My first seminar was early October and my surgery was December 19. I'm glad I did it, and looking forward to losing lots more!

Happy Friday! I have a question for anyone who has had their surgery through McLaren Northern Michigan or Dr. Randal Baker...what kind of pre-op diet does he put you on? Does he require you to buy the supplements in the office or give a guideline? I have an appt with him in two weeks, but I am inpatient for answers. ;) Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
