I had my VS surgery Jan. 28, 2011 my weight was at 268. Five days later it was at 255. I am now at 245. I must say that my experience in the hospital was like many of you all. Drinking for the first time was a rude awakeining. This is one I realized that something was different.

I have exercised and 1hr 3days out of the week and plan on increasing to 5 days. I must say that, being that Im 3 weeks since my surgery, I am a little paranoid about, if Im eating too much or did my staples come apart or if Im stretching my stomach, all the things I hear can happen AFTER I had my surgery. smh

This is why I joined this discussion group, to gain insight and share my journey.

As long as you follow your eating guidelines your staples are not going to come apart. At 2 weeks your chances for developing a leak decrease dramatically. Listen to your physical cues while eating slowly, you will feel when enough is enough.

I know what you mean! Im just 4 weeks out as of Thursday and feel since week 2 1/2 that I am eating too much-because Im hungry! Supporters in agroup I belong to on Facebook tell me to drink Water (LOTS)and be sure to get in my Protein Shakes. That should help with hunger.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
