Lila21 36 Posted February 16, 2011 So, I've been very happily not super hungry since I've been sleeved (2 months now!), and I love how easy it makes it for me to make the right choices. My first two periods were OK, if you don't count the intense cramping, grrrrr... But, then BAM! This time, I have felt HUNGRY for days. And it's not just head hunger. My stomach is growling and every time I want to eat something, and I check to see if I am "legit" hunger or experiencing head hunger, I find that I feel hungry, and my belly is screaming, "Feed ME, Seymour!" ( quote from "Little Shop of Horrors" :-)) . WHY???!!!! Does anyone else have this?
Rootman 1,101 Posted February 16, 2011 Excess acid can cause this - which your brain can interpret as hunger. Many Like me require a PPI like Prilosec to tame the acid and make the "hunger" go away.
MINI-Me 196 Posted February 16, 2011 Rootman may be right, but I am not so sure. I also have this issue around my TOM and believe it is very hormonal & the hunger is very real. Now, what you do about the hunger is where you have control. I fill it with cheese, pepperoni sticks, and other Protein rich Snacks. Try not to give into the carbs ... they are the devil! hugsamber 8 Posted February 16, 2011 Being a woman sucks around that time of the month. I am not hungry but want to eat. Plus I gain weight and have horrible cramps! The weight is what makes me the most mad though, hello I am barley eating and I gain 3 pounds. Wtf! Plus being all emotional and for me a little bitchy and easily irritated is not a good thing when my scale isn't cooperating! I do agree with rootman though, my prilosec saves me big time. sleeve 4 me 910 Posted February 17, 2011 I agree. I don't get hungry, but I WANT TO EAT right before that TOM...UGH!!! BUT the good news is, I don't gain like I used to and I actually lose right afterwards, go figure???
Lila21 36 Posted February 17, 2011 Thanks guys! Maybe my stomach acid is higher around TOM? I already take a PPI daily, but maybe I need to take zantac during TOM. It definitely feels like hunger because my stomach is growling and feels really empty, but when I try to eat, there's nothing I *want* to eat. Whatever it is, something is off :-). Guess I'll just chalk up to one of the many joys of Aunt Flo!
Globetrotter 1,340 Posted February 17, 2011 I was never a stereotypical woman regarding TOM before surgery, now I am a walking cliche - give me chocolate, shut your mouth, get out of my way! My hunger rages and only chocolate will soothe the savage beast, chocolate and exercising at the gym like I'm being chased by the hounds of hell. The upside to that is that for whatever reasons - call it pent up energy, rage ... - I am able to go farther and harder at the gym during that time. RAAARRR!! During TOM, I see a treadmill and I start whimpering :-) I think yours is a much better reaction!
