Is it really gas. . . or something else

Recommended Posts

One day while I was as town I had what I thought was a major gas attack. . . I hurt so bad for about an hour I thought I was dyeing. . . .well today it happened again. . .this time I was throwing up heaving. . . it felt like gas pains so bad I was going to pop. . . I couldn’t stand to touch my stomach especially the right side. . . this lasted this time around 2 hours. . . after I started heaving to throw up It simple shut off like a switch. . .. could this be something else like maybe a gallbladder attack. . .I have health insurance but barrowed the money for my sleeve because they wouldn’t pay. . . I am so afraid that if anything happens to me now that they will blame the sleeve and not pay for anything. . . can that happen. . . ? ? ? Thanks for everything fellow sleevers!

I would be on the safe side and Go to the doctor. i know that you has a gall blatter as well as an appendix on the right side the ther gallblatter will attack around the lower rib area on the right and the appendix will be painful around your belly button area. You at least need to get a doctors opinion on it.. It wouldn't hurt to call your baratric doc and get his 2 cents on it either.. good luck and please keep us posted

When you were explaining your symptoms I was thinking Gallbladder. I had stones and it sounds just like what I had. You should go in and get it checked out. It is such a painful thing to go thru. Good Luck and take care of yourself!

How close to when you ate does the pain happen?

Sounds like gallbladder to me too - which does happen commonly after rapid weight loss.

Seems a lot like the gall bladder attacks I had before having it removed. I would check with the doctor b/c it seems too intense for gas pains.

Call your surgeon and see about getting it checked out asap.. I hurt off and on for a week and thought it was gas pains. It wasn't instead it was a tiny little leak causing all the problems. Well that and pneumonia! If your stomach is getting tender during these attacks get it looked at!! It may very well be galstones if so your insurance should still cover any medical needs..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
