Surgery date is in sight!

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Went to my initital surgeon visit on Monday. The surgeon was very impressed in my overall knowledge of the sleeve and he answered all of my questions and I feel very good about him performing my surgery. I got LOTS of good news like....NO catheter and NO drain. He said my surgery will be 30-40 minutes long and I should be able to go home the next day. I had already done my 6 month weight monitoring and compiled my 5 year weight history. I gave those to the bariatric coordinator and she said she would fax it the next day (which was yesterday). She feels very confidant I should have a quick approval.

My next appointment is Tuesday where I meat with the NUT, the exercise guru, and the counselor. The coordinator is hoping I will have my approval by then and we can schedule my date, so its looking good that I will be a March sleever!

I am so excited and I think my brain is preparing me for what is about to happen. Over the past couple of weeks food has just started to taste...off. Things I used to like I have trouble eating a few bites of. I think my brain knows that my eating habits are about to drastically change and it preparing me. I still anticipating being very hungry during my two week pre-op diet, but I know it will be worth it. I am so excited and can't wait till Tuesday. Prayers for a speedy approval by the insurance company!

Missy

First of all I would make them keep in the hospital for at least 2 days..you will be struggling to get liquids in so the more time your in the hospital the better because they supercharge the amounts of fluids through your iv. The first day i was only allowed ice chips they want to make sure you are not going to start throwing up..the second day I got as much as Water that i could intake. The whole day I got 30 ounces of water. Your body needs 64 oz to survive. I would make them keep me for an additional day. It will help you so much..Second when you go on your liquid diet it pretty much sucks for the first 2 days. If you can get past the first 2 days you will not want food anymore if you follow your doctors reccomendations. Of course you will be on about 60 grams of Proteins avaliable through shake form. The Protein Shakes will curb your hunger a little bit. you will end up not wanting food after your second day. You have to get prepared for surgery and pretty much you will most likely be on liquids or thick liquids for at least 4 weeks after surgery.. One thing to remember through all of this the liquids are getting you ready for the calorie intake you will be getting after surgery. I did not cheat but there has been a few that has. I know I was very commited to my liquids and it has made all the difference to me. Please keep us posted and good luck

Thanks, I am very familiar with my diet, I am lucky in that I watched my husband go through it 18 months ago. He had bypass because our insurance at the time would not cover sleeve and his bmi was over 50. I was the keeper of the food for him and he did great. He hated his 2 week liquid diet though. I am glad I had the experience with him so I know what to expect.

Missy,

Glad things are goin well for you. My story is similar. I've completed all the paperwork, and Tuesday learned my surgery date is March 3. Just a couple of weeks away. I too am confident this surgery is a solution to my life long struggle. Stay in touch!

Cindy (in Virginia)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
