Nerve Damage From OR Table

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious if anyone else out there experienced the same complication as myself during their surgery. Apparently they use "seat belts" to strap you to the OR table. One of the belts pinched a nerve in my leg and ever since surgery my left thigh has been numb.

I'm hoping this means my leg is now healing, but it really burns. I guess of all the possible complications you could get from surgery that this is very minor; however, it isn't exactly pleasant.

Did anyone else suffer this complication? I've been told there is really nothing that can be done to speed up the healing. I'm taking a B-complex daily because I read that it helps with nerve function but I'm open to any suggestions that may help! Thanks!

While shopping last night at the health-food store, I noticed a formula called "Nerve Pain". I forget the brand, but it's homeopathic. They have all different homeopathic formulas and I was looking at all of them last night. You should check it out...

After my second banding, I did have some 'strange' pain/numbness in my right upper leg/hip area. I was also told it may have been due to the position they had me on the table. It resolved itself within a few days, but it did make it rather uncomfortable for lying on the bed for more than a few hours at a time. Walking seemed to help.

I had this too after my initial surgery. It got really worrisome to me, and the numbness in my upper thigh actually "hurt" sometimes. Weird that numbness could hurt, but it did. Anyway, it gradually went away on its own after about a month (I lost about 30 pounds in the first month though so I don't know if that may have helped relieve some of the pressure off of the nerve). Hang in there and hope you feel better!

I have had pain in my upper left shoulder. I am 6 weeks post op. I thought would have gone away by now. The Dr is thinking its a pinched nerve. Just wondering if anybody else has had this happen

I am so sorry you are having nerve pain, but I am so relieved to hear it isn't all in my head! It really is in my leg! Mine started a few years ago following my hysterectomy, the outer portion of my right leg from the knee, up to mid thigh, is numb feeling but also hurts. It seems to help when I reposition my leg some times. I went to the Dr. who sent me to a neurologist, who put me on neurontin, and kept increasing the dose...I never had any improvement with the meds, so opted to discontinue them after over a year. I figured I give it a good run. It has been over 4 years now, I have been hoping if I got some of this weight off, that it might relieve some pressure somewhere and help...but not holding my breath. If you find relief let me know. Has anyone thought about accupuncture? I have .... but just thought only, never got up the guts to try it! Good Luck on your recovery!

Kat

Wow, that is exactly what is happening to me. My doc offered to send me to another specialist for neurontin but I declined because I've read about serious side effects from it and I tried it years ago for herniated discs but never thought it did much for me. So...it sounds like yours never went away??? My doc estimates 6 months for the nerves to regenerate. I cannot image having this forever. It is the strangest feeling Numbness/Burning/Itching all at the same time sometimes! UGH! Well, whoever hears of a solution first please share!! I do think the B12 complex I'm taking has helped decrease my symptoms. Now, it's mainly a burning sensation and less numbness. Thanks for all the thoughts everyone!

Just a thought-sometimes a disc in your back presses on a nerve and can make part of your leg numb. This happened to me a few years ago. I missed the bottom stair carrying a plastic tub of laundry. I went down on my knees. My knees didn't hurt, the jolt went to my back. For about 3 months the inside of my right thigh was numb. My doc sent me to an orthopeadic specialist who prescribed physical therapy. No drugs. It eventually went away as my back disc inflammation went down. BTY the orthopeadic guy said this could happen without a sudden fall, it could happen with some sort of pressure affecting the back.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
