Mom Advice!! Please HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have three children. This is our busiest time of the year. All three play travel Baseball/softball. We have more one than practice every night and tournaments on the weekends. My husband can help out hauling kids for a week or two but not alot more beyond that. I am going to see a surgeon tomorrow to schedule my surgery (hopefully) Should I do it during this time of the year with my crazy schedule or should I wait until my life slows down. I am the mom that goes to every practice and every game. Please help I am starting the Mom guilt.

Hello.

I just wanted to say that don't let yourself feel guilty. If you miss a few practices/games for a few weeks, I'm sure you will be upset about it, but think about what you are doing for your future. It's just a few weeks (I would think and hope) but think about how you are increasing your health so that you will be around that much more.

I don't know. I haven't been sleeved or anything, but I'm thinking about it and I understand how you are feeling. My daughter is younger, and doesn't have practices, etc, but I worry about not being able to pick her up for the first few weeks, and how she might think I'm rejecting her. But then I think that down the road, I will be even better to play with her, etc. (She's just under 2 right now).

Take care and keep us posted with your journey!

Melissa

Honestly, I would let hubby hold the fork and do what's right for you and the entire family after all the sooner you do this the sooner your family gets to enjoy the you that you deserve. Life will always get in the way there are always commitments, sick children, last minute problems there is always something, more importantly I think you should ask yourself how much longer are you willing to spend being overweight and unhealthy? Some things in life just can't wait-like happiness. Good Luck;)

Honestly, I wouldn't wait on this! You will be out of commission for what a week tops! You had how many kids? I'm telling you from experience, 1 natural and 1 C-section (twins) the sleeve was much easier to recover from. The pain after is almost a non issue. the biggest pain is the week that you cannot drive! And I really didn't adhere to that, my mom gets lost going around the corner so that ended real quick. The biggest thing I can see standing in your way, is if you need to lug the equipment around for your kids, or put your kids in and out of the car. And i'm guessing that if they are participating in sports, they do not need to be lifted and buckled into the car. My girls were 3 at the time of my sleeve, and needed to be put in the van and buckled in, which I quickly taught them!

Just make sure while you are sitting (strolling) at practice, you are sipping on your Water. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, drink, walk, and get better! You really should not have a problem!

Just my opinion, hope it helps you make you decision!

Patti

Can you ask another parent from the teams to drive your kids to and from practice for a few days? And get them to help you as much as possible - they might not know how to start a washing machine, but if they are strong enough to wear the equipment, they can most definitely lug it to the laundry room and shove it in! Nothing bad will happen if you miss a practice or two. My parents went to exactly ONE recital throughout my childhood/teenage years, and I haven't turned into a rambling drug addict (yet?).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
