twoboysandagirl 109 Posted February 15, 2011 I went in for my 6 month cleaning. I have been reading that Calcium supplements are bad for your teeth so I asked the dentist. He said yes they eat away at your teeth and so are my Multivitamins. He said that I should brush, floss, and use floride rinse after each supplement. Then I told him that would be five times a day. He seemed confused. I dont think he was listening to me when I told him what kind of surgery I had. He said he would look into the Calcium supplements out there to help me find the best choice. I dont think he will follow through though...I have very healthy teeth at this point and I dont want that to change because of my wls. Today I had a lot of build up and it was a painful cleaning, the dental assistant said that it was because of the minerals in the supplements. But, even if all my teeth fell out I still think wls was the right choice for me. So what have you experienced? Has your dentist told you anything?
klus263 9 Posted February 15, 2011 My 6 month check up is next month so I will definately ask about it. I am looking to change from the chewables to pills (I have no problems swallowing pills at 2+ months out) and so far I found the Kirkland brand at costco has the same % of my chewables and they are cheaper. I also have my 3 month follow up with the doctor in 2 weeks so I will ask him.
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted February 15, 2011 Interesting, I haven't heard anything like that! I'll ask my dentist if the Calcium thing is true next time I'm in for that cleaning that was due in August 2010...har har.
pattimomof3nj 21 Posted February 15, 2011 Well, my teeth are literally falling apart since I had my band 3 years ago. I think it is a combination of the constant throwing up, and the Vitamin deficancy (sp). Early out I was lacking in lots of vitamins! I have had at least 4 root canals per years for the past 3 years, my insurance has maxed out each year! the dentist finally told me to start using a fluoride rinse this year! I also think that drinking Crystal Lite lemon aid and other SF drinks had contributed to this. If I eat something that is too hard my teeth actually break in half! it is really bad. if you are new to WLS, i suggest that you start using a fluoride rinse now and take extra care of your teeth before you get to the point of no return! twoboysandagirl 109 Posted February 15, 2011 Oh my! Thank you for telling me about your experiences. I bought some flouride rinse today.
