NSV's: hands in my pockets and getting "checked out"

Recommended Posts

So, just a couple of short NSV's from Saturday night! I was out for dinner with some friends, and I was walking through our local Red Robin (note: the Ensenada chicken Platter is fairly sleeve-friendly; high Protein, not ENORMOUS portion sizes), and a couple of nice things happened in quick succession.

First, I had my hands in my jeans pockets. Now, non-obese people probably wouldn't understand, but you guys might: my jeans fit me well these days (not giant and baggy, and not skin tight) and I noticed that having my hands in my jeans pockets felt... comfortable! I didn't feel like my hands were going to be severed at the wrists. I didn't feel like I had to bow my arms out over a huge gut. I didn't feel like my jeans were going to fall off and I had to "hold them up" with my hands. Everything just fit... right... and my hands felt comfortable! That was nice!

Second, I noticed a couple of the waitresses there "checking me out." This was a nice ego boost since I'm 40 and I'd wager that the average age of the wait staff was 21-25. Now I"m no Brad Pitt and I never will be, but it's nice to feel at least "average" in appearance again, isn't it? Even if you don't intend to DO anything about it, it's nice to get "checked out" by the opposite sex once in a while!

Just a couple of NSV's there that I figured I'd share!

Yea!!!! good for you. Its funny how those little things make such a difference in our confidence. I don't have any desire to go flirting and cavorting with every male of the species... but I get checked out a little too now and it feels good. I know what you mean about being "normal" I felt so freakish when I was big. I dont need to be Angelina Jolie but its nice to not stick out anymore.

Yay! The jeans thing in combination with getting checked-out is definitely NSV worthy!!! I've been married for almost 15 years...not sure I would "recognize" getting checked out anymore. But I'm thrilled for you!

And the Ensenada chicken platter is my all time FAVORITE Red Robin dinner. I used to eat it pre-op (yes, all of it) but now I only pick at the salad and order one chicken breast, and save half of it for later.

Sweetie I am nearly 53 and I would defo chech you out, if that's not too lecherous??!

You need to get used to the attention. I have found it very interesting to see the guys approach to me change to a much more sexually charged thing, basically I am still the same bod but their attitude is massively different. I must admit I am milking it as at my age i need every advantage there is keeping up in the software industry.

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing. And I think your pic looks more like Bruce Willis (who I think is totally HOT!) so I can see why you'd get checked out. Love the hands in the pocket. Something to look forward to (I was sleeved 3 weeks ago tomorrow.)

Congratulations!! It's been fun following your progress since I joined this website! I know the feeling you are talking about as I weighed 205 when I was 19 years old and lost 75 pounds in a year. I was a totally different person and people treated me totally different.

At this point I am again invisible to most people, especially guys. I'm married 37 years now, but I'm not dead yet. I have no desire to fool around with anybody but my husband, but it would be fun to get some "looks" instead of being invisible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
