Food tolerances many months post op

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am hopefully having my sleeve next month and I have a question for those of you that are 8+ months post op. What are your food tolerances now? Are you able to eat most foods but in much smaller portions? Are there some foods that you just cannot eat at all? My husband had gastric bypass 18 months ago. At the time the insurance we had did not cover sleeve and he had a significant amount of weight to lose so he opted for bypass. He has lost 215 pounds. He was VERY strict on his food during his losing phase, but once he reached goal he has added back some foods he enjoyed before but in tiny portions and every now and then. There is nothing he cannot eat, he does not get dumping syndrome from sugar at all. The only thing he can't eat is salad, as it goes RIGHT through him if you know what I mean, lol.

I was just wondering if my experience will be similar. Thanks!

Well from what I have read usually after 8 months on there is nothing that cant' be tolorated. I know with ryn there are limitations to your diet..I know that your not suppose to eat celery, asparagus any thing stringy.. There is no limitations on the sleeve.

..actually, it is better not to eat stringy things with the sleeve either (fresh coconut comes to mind)... they can stay in the stomach, and form a ball that cant pass and needs to be removed by surgery....

I'm 11 months out and I can eat anything in very small portions. The only thing I have trouble with is sweet alcoholic drinks like margaritas and so on -- I stopped ordering them because they are SO sweet and fill me up too fast and I end up not being able to drink more than half!

I'm over 20 months out with absolutely zero food tolerances. I can say that pork chops (regardless of how they're prepared) still sit heavy in my stomach. I can eat them, but I feel like they are "heavy".

I eat anything I want. There is nothing that causes me any problems. I'll be 2 years at the end of April.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
