The surgeon gave me HUGE antibiotic pills to take for a week. I put them at the end of my tongue (not on the tip, on the other end) and then I skull them down with as much Water as I can, which isn't much, but it works...

If it's not a time-release with all those teeny tiny things, couldn't you use a pill-cutter?

I was told that I couldn't take pills without crushing them for the first 8 weeks. If the pills couldn't be crushed (like time-released or fish oil), I was given an alternative. I ate the crushed pills with yogurt or mashed potatoes.

How long has it been since surgery? What guidelines did you get from your surgeon? I had a problem just sipping but things started easing up in about 7 days post surgery. Things are going well now - I'm almost 10 weeks out - however there are times when I gulp too much. Yea - then you get that awful pain in the middle of your chest... literally takes your breath away.

I wish you well!

The liquid fish oil provides way more benefit than the caps. Check out the nutrition numbers, you have to take a ton of the horsepills to get the same benefit you get from one tablespoon of the oil. Carlson lemon flavored tastes fine and it's pretty easy to get down.

I was told to just swallow them. I am an annoying and always complaining person, so I thought if I can do it, probably everyone can... I am doing it thrice a day, you think you can do and you do it. I think it's just the idea...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
