I did not really know what to expect after the surgery until I started to read some of the postings here. Now, I'm thinking I might have rather stayed in the dark. Reading some of the posts from others that are only a few days out of surgery sounds scary. However, I just keep telling myself how much I dislike this huge gut and the unhealthy life I live. I want to have a can-do attitude after the surgery and make myself push through so that I will have a quick recovery. This is my 1st goal for my new life.

I was too apprehensive about the unknown. I am just over 2 months after surgery and I am lucky to say I was one who did not have any type of issues. I am loving the results so far. I am can know say that I am halfway to goal and am feeling wonderful.

Woah - two months out and already half way to goal? That's impressive. Thanks for telling me you didn't have any issues. I usually get through surgeries pretty good but I'm not a youngster and as I get older it gets a little harder to recover.

Through my pre-op with my Dr. She seems to think I will really have an easy time of it. I hope she is right. She even said that I may not need a drain! Yeah.

Because my BMI is just 36 with slight hypertension and a little reflux, she feels that this chose of the VSG is a perfect choice and is glad that insurance has approved me before my BMI was higher and co-morbidites were worse which makes the surgery harder on the Dr. and the patient. I'm again more excited than apprehensive.

But, I did find out who my nonsupportive, negative person was. She is saying what a huge mistake this is and how I don't need this I just need to exercise more and eat like her (a vegan). I really went off on her telling how a restrictive diet was an impossibility when you needed to lose almost 100 lbs. It's very sad how people think they know what is best for you! Oh well. Reading these boards prepared me for this.

OMG! I had my first pre-op support group yesterday. We did our registration and then had a brief talk, Q&A with all the folks again, dieticians, exercise folks, resp, RNs, etc. Then we found out that the hospital has a SPA in it and we got our choice of two SPA treatments while we are in the hospital recouperating! I chose a facial and massage. I love this hospital and Dr. They are soooo supportive. One week after surgery we go to our first post-op appt and learn to eat our first real meal all together. I think I'm really going to be happy and successful with this choice.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
