I live in the uk and haven't heard of Biotin and not sure if its available here but I'm going to order it on ebay anyway, as I heard from some great people on here that it's amazing for Hair loss. I just noticed it comes in tablets and Shampoo and also in different measurements and amounts. What's the best type of product and amount of biotin for me to start with? Let me know if it has helped any of you with hair loss as my hair is beginning to fall out a bit/

Hi Faith -- :)

Ok, this is what I do -- I have no nutritionist to tell me what to do or anything -- so I'm kinda winging it, but it seems to work.

1) I take this: natures-bounty-biotin-5000mcg-60-softgels-1.jpg

I take one tablet a day -- 5000 mcg

2) I wash my hair twice a week (I know it sounds gross -- I used to wash it every day, but with the Hair loss . . . . ) luckily I have thick hair and washing it twice a week is not noticeable.

3) I use this shampoo: 82982233706-2T.jpg

and the conditioner too.

I figure by the time I'm done losing weight, most of my hair will start to grow back in. (Crossing fingers).

Hope this helps!

Oh, and yes, it does help with re-growth (not loss) -- I've got a bunch of little hairs growing back in -- (and also my leg hair is growing faster too - tongue.gif)

Where do you find the Shampoo?

Julie,

Thanks for this post. I did want to tell you, though, that you're wasting your money on the Shampoo and conditioner. I am a licensed hairdresser and know that Biotin cannot be absorbed through the hair or skin. Only taken orally will it help.

From Wikipedia:

Biotin is necessary for cell growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of fats and amino acids. It plays a role in the citric acid cycle, which is the process by which biochemical energy is generated during aerobic respiration. Biotin not only assists in various metabolic reactions but also helps to transfer carbon dioxide. Biotin may also be helpful in maintaining a steady blood sugar level.[2] Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails. As a consequence, it is found in many cosmetics and health products for the hair and skin, though it cannot be absorbed through the hair or skin itself.

Just FYI.

Amy

Great info Julia! Thats helpful info too Amy, thank you. I did not know it could not be absorbed through the skin. I haven't tried the shampoo/conditioners but I do use the pills. I use 2,500 mcg which seems to work fine for me too. I've noticed a great deal of regrowth - so yes it doesn't stop the hair from falling out, but I believe it is helping with the regrowth. I've never had regrowth like this before and I've had moments in life where my hair fell out pretty good too.

:)

I got my Biotin from Holland and Barrett in the UK - I did order online as not all stores stock it. I started taking it pre op and all the way thru my recovery, and am still taking it now, and still had hairloss, but now have regrowth. Didn't bother with Shampoo, but my Dr said to take 2 Vitamins a day if it got bad.

by the way I just heard Biotin makes ALL hair grow and as a Greek cypriot lady, I have enough arm hair to keep me warm in the winter- just hoping I won't get more growth in unwanted places! lol

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
