Newly Banded May 24th

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

:o :o

My name is Martha and I was banded on May 24th, I have lost about 13lbs and hoping to loose more. I was a little worried that I am able to eat anything and not feel full or get sick, thank GOD for that. But after

reading a few replies to my other post I feel a little better. I just need to

watch what I eat. Hope to chat with you all soon. Good Luck to everyone.

Hi Martha, I'm new also. Just got banded on June 19th. Ooh, so sore. I go back to work on the 28th and that will be a real test for me. My Dr. took me off all broth because my system was rejecting it making me ill. Feeling better already. I can suck on a few crackers now and then. Good Luck....

Hi desoteb,

I was sore also but every day is better. Are you on Protein drinks also?

Make sure you have those or you will feel weak. Try some hommade Soup

that is what had and it worked fine for me,. Well don't wory in a few weeks you will feel like you have nothing inside you. I have lost 14 lbs but I am waiting for my first fill and then hopefully I will continue to lose more.

ALso try holding a pillow against your stomach when you are laying down and trying to get up it takes some of the sting away. Well good luck and keep in touch. let me know how you make out.

Martha

Hi Martha, Welcome. I'm a relative newbie (banded 5/16/06). Don't worry. Only on my first day did I feel sick. I stuck to the protien drinks, baby food fruit, and sugar free pudding. I was back at work in 5 days and gradually started eating solids. A week later, I felt like I was starving. 6/13/06, I got my first fill and now the true test of my behaviors have kicked in. Always remember to chew, chew, chew and eat slowly! I never realized how I must have gulped down my food before. Hang in there! Lot's of my best wishes!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
