Sheila 1 Posted February 11, 2011 I was wondering if anyone discovered they had a hiatal hernia during the process of your pre-surgery work up? I was told I had one, and that it would be corrected during my surgery. I was just wondering if it added time to the surgery and recovery period? StacyS 20 Posted February 11, 2011 I have a hiatal hernia and my surgeon said he will be correcting it while he's in there! My sleeve buddy here at work also had one and she did not have a difficult recovery at all. Fixing the hernia added no time nor more complications. You shouldnt worry! Foxbins 625 Posted February 11, 2011 I had one that I didn't know about, it was fixed during surgery and I recovered fine. I don't think it added more than a few minutes to the surgery time.
Sheila 1 Posted February 12, 2011 Thanks girls. I am not worried about having it repaired, but I was unsure if it made recovery a little longer and such. I didn't know I had it until they did an upper GI on me, and I was told at my recent follow up at the surgeon's office. But it does explain how I keep getting upset tummy after I eat. emilygrace 5 Posted February 13, 2011 I wasn't aware that I had one, but one was found and fixed during the operation. My recovery was fine and uneventful. I do have bad reflux since immediately postop, not sure if it's related to the hernia or just the sleeve.
Stacy160 201 Posted February 13, 2011 I'm the opposite... I had bad reflux before surgery, and haven't had it at all since. My hernia was found during surgery and it added about 10 minutes to the surgery itself, and I had a very quick, easy recovery overall.
