The pain is bearable so far, finding really hard time to sleep.

Thx teady bear for ur answer..actually losing weight slowly is most recommended but u know its reliefing to find someone have the same concerns...as for the protien shakes i was not advised by my surgeon..he gave me 1 month liquid diet which doesnot have any protiens..i found Isopure in sief pharmacy its 0 carbs and fats

I'm from Egypt living in Saudi Arabia, done my sleeve 12 days ago, and also was given a 1 month liquid diet, everyone else I communicated with was given from 2 To 3 weeks liquid diet only.

Hey Hany! It's SO GOOD seeing some Egyptians on here! That's what I'm talkin' about!

So... Every surgeon is different, but I promise you that it will all be worth it. I'm wondering what your surgeon has you doing after that one month? Solids? Well, hang in there! I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'd love to be your support buddy!

Hey hany... From egy also...who's ur doctor??? Been sleeved for 2+ months now... Need help... I'm on vacation now in sokhna... I swim in the pool and the sea too... I'm always hungry...eat lots of mini sandwiches all day.. But when trying to eat a regular meal i couldn't.... meat & chicken are the worst.... Is that normal or is it the sea air thats making me hungry...

Thanx purplicious for the support, after the first month I have another month semi solids, after this I can start eating normal food gradually.

Hey Teddy Bear, nice hearing from other Egyptians, many doctor is Faheem bassiouny, is been sleeved for two weeks only, it felt like to months.

I heard from my doctor, there's two gaps for sleeve operation, sweet lovers, and lots of mini meals eaters, take care.

I'm not in your position now but I think its not a matter of being hungry, rather missing the eating habit.

Hi Everyone,

I am currently living and working in Abu Dhabi and am giving very serious thought to having the VSG performed in a couple of months.

I was given the name of a surgeon in Dubai by my internist and had a consultation with him yesterday. He is asking 40,000 dirham ($10,483) for "everything" (meaning surgery, anesthesia, two-night stay in hospital, and one-week follow-up). The subsequent three-month follow-ups are not included but will probably be covered by my insurance.

I would be very interested in learning what other people have paid in the UAE, particularly in Abu Dhabi, and good experiences others have had with surgeons here.

Hi,40 000 is a very good price.It does vary from 38000 (after discount...lol) to 70000 (American hosp)

Thank you DesertMom for your kind reply. It's good to know I was given a fair price. I’m always concerned about receiving an expat surcharge.

I think laparoscopic surgeons in the UAE are sensitive to the fact that the fee for this procedure is dropping in the United States and, of course, one can have it done for less than $5,000 just south of the Texas border.

My biggest concern now is with Asia’s severe phobia of opiates in regard to pain management. I went to the dentist last month at Al Noor Hospital with an abscessed wisdom tooth. My jaw was swollen to twice its normal size. The earliest appointment he could give me was 17 days away. His solution for my pain was Ibuprofen and Panadol. I almost fell off my chair in disbelief! Fortunately, I had some Percocet (5mg tabs Oxycodone) left over from another extraction I had performed in the States two months earlier.

I discussed this concern with my surgeon. They use an IV-drip of a synthetic opiate for pain relief called Tramadol (better known as Ultram in the States), which is considered less potent than Tylenol #3 (with codeine). He claims that this solution will be more than sufficient to manage the post-operative pain. I hope he’s right.

Hi,yes the pain management thing.Dr Al Taie does give morphine (made me dry heave for hours,I hated it so had it only once) Then they gave me an IV paracetamol that They run in over 20 minutes but I found when I fiddled with the iv ( Im a Registered nurse..lol) and made it run in over 4 hours every time they changed it,it helped.Tramadol helps for bone pains,when they do orthopeadic surgery they often use it.

Who is the dr that you've seen?I know all of them and there are some good dr's out there.I also know people from 4 different surgeons that's had some great results.

Hi Mason - I found the pain stuff that they gave me at Al Noor was fine, and the hospital was great - spacious room, and QUIET and one of the Fillipina nurses was a total star. I made myself walk walk walk around that darn ward as often as possible, and had nil gas pain.
