Oooo looky look. I am the first to post here. I am a pre-op. I am currently working on my 6 month diet for insurance. I also just completed my consult with the surgeon in May. I have now going to try to get all my testing done. I can't wait go forward in to the future with my new tool. I am already working on my smile. I just got braces March 1st of this year. So the new and I'm proved me is on it's way!

Ciao :o

Hello everyone, i'm new here, I just started my seemingly endless doc. visits!! I was wondering, do any of you have BCBS of RI? I have a BMI of 37 and i'm a little stressed out about being denied!!!

I had BCBS and it was an easy process....although your BMI is a little low...I thought DR. Roye said that you had to have a BMI of 40 or above to qualify...have you seen your surgeon yet?

Yes, I saw her last week, a BMI of 35-39 is covered usually if you have comorbidites. There is a list of different things that quilify such as sleep apena, asthma, reflux, joint-pain, blah blah blah ... but unless you have a BMI of 40 your not guarentied coverage so i'm worried! I'm tempted to gain 15 pounds to push me over the edge ... :(

As long as you have clearly documented comorbidities, you should be fine. I have federal blue primary, BCBSRI secondary, but my BMI is higher. My surgeon has mentioned that he never gets a no from BCBSRI. FEPBLUE is a little crankier but ultimately if you fit the profile, they have to say yes. GOOD LUCK!

Hello, I have been reading all the posts which I find really helpful. I am from RI also and I am just starting this journey. I have my first dr. appointment in Nov. which seems to be taking forever to get here. I am very nervous about the whole thing I have had bad experiences with other surgeries but I am determined to do this.

I am going to dr. Beth Ryder at RI hospital and I have Healthmate coast to coast which I have heard covers the surgery. Does anyone else go to Dr. Ryder? I would love to hear from anyone about her. She is with my other dr. so I thought I would try her. Well I try and come back and read all the post about the people who have had their surgeries and hopefully I will be posting soon about my own experience. I wish everyone good luck and good health with their knew lives.

Sandy:rolleyes2:
