Julie76 251 Posted February 10, 2011 How long does it take to get approved? I have BC/BS and was curious how long I should wait before I start calling. I don't want to be that annoying person calling my VGS doctor every day asking if they have heard anything but as most of you on here know how exciting this is. I know I have waited this long... I'm sure I can wait a little longer...Just wanted to know if any of you used BC/BS and what the wait was. Thanks Julie
Rootman 1,101 Posted February 10, 2011 Every insurance place is different. If you are morbidly obese and have other co-morbidities then it may take less time. I didn't even pursue insurance because I'd heard of others waiting a year or better for approval. I went to Tijuana MX and self paid.
Julie76 251 Posted February 10, 2011 I wish I had the money to do that. I'm a single mom and have to watch every penny. I feel guilty even using as much as I have to for this surgery. I just know in the long run it will be worth it. Not counting how much money it will save just in food I won't be buying for myself.lol
ozzy22 0 Posted February 10, 2011 lol every insurance is different but I'm sure your surgeon's office will call you the day you're approved. I have Aetna and my information was sent in to Aetna on a Thursday and I was approved Tuesday morning and my surgeon's office called me right after Aetna had called them. NLWC.Christa 4 Posted February 11, 2011 Every insurance is different, as others have said. Some take 15-30 business days, some take 48-72 hours. You could always call your insurance and ask about the status...at least then you wouldn't feel like you were "bothering" your surgeon's office too much.
