I had my 2 month visit at the surgeon's office yesterday. They are very happy with my progress so far, according to their scale, I have lost 25 pounds. According to my scale I have lost 30. I have reached the amount they wanted me to lose prior to surgery. I have to get through my psych evaluation on March 2 and then on March 8th I meet with the surgeon again, all my other appointments have been with the surgical nurse, and hopefully receive my surgery date. I also told them I am available on short notice just to give me time to inform my managers I will be away. So with all my fingers and toes crossed and many prayers going up to heaven, I might get my surgery within the next couple of months. I did ask the question if I was going to be required to do a liquid diet prior to surgery, and the answer was NO. I am to keep eating the way I am eating now and to try to keep losing. I said, I want to because I want to reach 250 pounds prior to surgery. Oh and the size of the bougie is a 40. I k now most of you had either a 32 or a 64, I guess I am just in the middle. I asked why for this size in particular, and the answer was it is a better to size to keep the leak problem to a minimum. I was happy with that answer.

I also found out yesterday I have a hiatal hernia. Has anyone else found out they had a hernia that was corrected during surgery? Does it make recovery time longer? Does it make surgery time longer?

I am happy to receive all the prayers you want to give me. I am so excited and ready for this part of my journey to begin. :D

Sheila...

I am going to be in the March sleevers club so maybe we will take this journey together. I am scheduled for surgery March 22nd! I did not have to take a test to find out if I have a hiatal hernia. Atleast it can be fixed at the same time and is not delaying your surgery. I am on the pre-op diet now which is not liquid, but high Protein and low carb. I do not think my surgeon requires a liquid diet pre-op but I will find out all of those things at the patient education class next Friday. I hope to be around 250 before I go in for surgery so that is why I started my pre-op diet early. I began on Monday so I will be on it a little over a month before I go in for surgery. It's hard b/c I am hungry and tired but this too shall pass. Good luck with everything and good job with your weight loss!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
