I do the Walk Away the Pounds 3 and 4 mile... a lot less boring than the treadmill. I also walk my pups and the pups at the shelter. :o

Whats walk away the pounds?

Thats the DVD I suggested you get while you were looking for your treadmill. Its Leslie Sanson and she has a 1, 2 or 3 mile dvd that's pretty good. It simulates walking (your kinda marching and moving) and when your done with each video its equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 miles.

If you do a search online... type in Walk Away the Pounds and tons of links will come up. She now has a 4 and a 5 mile. I catually can finish the four mile but started out with the one mile. I found a set of the 1/2/3 mile on eBay for a very good price! THey are easy to follow... and a good workout. :o

Jog. Whatever way you look at it, although to cover the same distance walking and jogging use the same calorie, if you've got 40 minutes and you run you're going to go twice as far and burn twice as many calories.

Most overweight people will ahve to start out walking but if you can get your technique right so that you truly learn how to jog rather than going from a walk to a pace you cant maintain, you'll be able to jog very soon.

Walking is better than nothing and its a great exercise for those who are just starting to build fitness and lose weight. But running will always bring you far superior aerobic benefits. Its entirely possible to walk a few miles a day but not be at all aerobically fit.

Running is exhilarating, it feels like such an achievement and if you pace yourself and build up to it, you wont get injured. Can you tell I"m a running freak?

But obviously its not suitable for everyone, and you have to do what your body will allow you to. But I wholeheartedly believe in hard aerobic exercise for real weight loss benefits.

I really like the Walk Away The Pounds dvd also. It has simple steps that are easy to follow, almost a combo of low impact aerobics and walking. I picked one of them up on eBay and a friend gave the 3 mile one.

I jogged in place at home for 5 minutes tonight. I have to start somewhere. It got my heart racing and it felt good. I'm going to do it again tomorrow and increase the time by 1 or 2 minutes each day.

P.S. This is for Telly....

I did Walk Away the Pounds 3 mile when I got home yesterday for the first time in months. I stopped walking on the weekdays because it is too hot when I get off from work. I hope to make this a DAILY ritual.

I LOVE walking/jogging outside, we have some great trails here. But now that we joined the gym, I will be using the eliptical more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
