Strength Training

Recommended Posts

I purchased a DVD for strength training, Kathy Smith. Its a little bit to advanced for me. Does anyone do strength training, what do you use?

I currently do the following but need to increase my resistance amounts. I'm either going to buy heavier weights or join a gym and use their universal machine for better strength training. I'm not getting the results I want here at home.

250 crunches or the Abs of Steel video

500 leg lifts or the Buns of Steel video

150 bicep curls w/ 4lb. weight

150 tricep curls w/ 4lb. weight

150 lateral raises w/ 2 lb. weight

150 butterfly curls w/ 2lb. weight

150 toe (calf) raises

Well... You already know this ... circuit training but with weighted machines. Oh... and I keep my ice cream really frozen hard so that I have to use a lot of muscle to get it out of the carton. :o

Ohhh.... and I had some stretchy bands that work great for the reps... especially when you are doing walking videos. Some of Leslie's older Walk Away the Pounds videos used them... they really work great. I have a little pink one for my daughter so that we can work together.

First of all, I never thought that "I" would ever be able to comment on an exercise thread so that's a NSV for me but anyway...my bariatric center built a special gym for their patients. They even provide a trainer! I love it and I really enjoy strength training. I use a little of everything then I do alternating days of cardio (walking mainly). I've recently been able to increase my weights on most of the machines...cool! I have to work on my endurance though...when I go to the gym I workout with the machines for close to an hour but cardio days are only about half an hour. I guess it's better than nothing, right?

Start out with light weight,s and work up from there. it will take a little b it of time but soon you will notice a tighter mucle doing lots of rep,s.

also there are Exercise,s you can do using your own body,s weight like

the plank, holding your own weight up by doing a push up laying on your bows.

also super man. push up,s.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
