buchannon 17 Posted February 8, 2011 We just had a health screening at my job and I just got told that my LDL cholesterol count is extremely low. Has anyone else seen this post-op? I guess it's not exactly dangerous for it to be this low, although it does bolster my risk for depression and anxiety. I was told that I need to exercise more and drink more alcohol, two things that I currently feel I'm doing a lot of! LOL
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted February 8, 2011 I wasn't sure why it was a bad thing, but then I found a good article on it. I guess there are actual diseases for which low LDL is a symptom, and treatments do exist. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/121975-overview
buchannon 17 Posted February 8, 2011 Ah thanks for the link, interesting read. I *hope* that my cholesterol is so low only because this last week I've had a cold and haven't been exercising or drinking alcohol. I was just curious if anyone else here has seen the same thing happen?
RaiderRob 3 Posted February 9, 2011 I'm pre-op and my ldl is low so my pcp put me on fish oil to help raise my level. Talk to your doc about it. It's not expensive and is easy to take. I asked in my nutrition class last night if fish oil was ok post op and the dietician said that it is.
Tiffykins 673 Posted February 9, 2011 My LDL was low as well, and with a healthy dose of flax seed (organic ground), lean fish and scallops eaten more than once a year (because I hated seafood) my level has slowly crept up and into normal range.
buchannon 17 Posted February 9, 2011 Thanks guys, I'll try some fish oil and flax seed. lean fish and scallops eaten more than once a year (because I hated seafood) my level has slowly crept up and into normal range. I absolutely hate seafood, but I guess I should start trying it again since I'm starting to get into other things I used to hate. Maybe I love it now, who knows??
