sarahh1828 4 Posted February 10, 2011 anyone have an NG tube? If so how was it? I'm an LVN student, and we practiced them on each other. I won't lie, it wasn't a pleasand experience. I also have a pretty bad gag reflex. Some of the other students did fine and said it wasn't annoying at all. Just if you're allowed, swallow the Water they give, and look down to swallow, it helps it pass down the throat easier.

hollyjp1 0 Posted February 11, 2011 I wonder if some doctors insert the NG tube for the leak test? Its a faster way of getting it to the stomach. Just a possibility.
warrior68 16 Posted February 13, 2011 I have not been sleeved yet, but I have had a NG tube in the past due to my Crohns disease, it wasn't fun, and I'll leave it at that.
Neanie in Texas 2 Posted February 14, 2011 My doctor told me I would have an NG tube for the first day. I am an RN and have put in many NG tubes. This one should not be bad as it will be inserted during surgery. It will stay in until after the swallow test the next morning. Then if you past the swallow test, they will remove the tube. The purpose of the NG tube is to take away excess acid and Fluid that might collect after surgery. It help to prevent you from having nausea. It will be worth it. I hate the thought also but I can stand anything for 24 hours. If it will keep me from being nauseated, I will do it. I really was not given a choice and will do what I have to do. YOU CAN TOO. Just think it goes in during surgery, you rest, sleep most of the first day with walking every hour. That way 24 hours will go fast. Hope this helps with your fears of the NG tube. NJMOMof2 17 Posted February 14, 2011 No NG tube. Just had to have an upper GI and had to drink this clear brown liquid to check for leaks. It was the worst stuff I've ever tasted. I could vomit just thinking about it.
