PatrickG 5 Posted February 8, 2011 I had my VSG on Friday Feb. 4. For two weeks before I was on the 800 calorie per day liquid diet. I lost about 10 lbs quickly, which triggered gouty arthritis in my left ankle. I was OK pain wise until I had to stop ibuprofen 1 week before surgery. I tried to tough it out on tylenol but I ended up going to urgent care on Monday. I got an outbrake dose of colchicine. My ankle was OK for two days but on the day of the surgery it was throbbing again. The surgeon remarked to my wife that my blood pressure dropped 50 points when they put me under. She replied "of course it was because he was in pain!". The surgeon put me on a two week course of colchicine. Today is my first day I am trying to get off of the hydrocodone and my ankle is still sore.

2muchfluff 1 Posted February 10, 2011 Most likely caused by dehydration. Uric acid becomes concentrated and crystalizes in joints. Try to up fluids as much as possible.
