optasia 3 Posted February 8, 2011 Hi, I"m new in the process and am trying to think ahead. What kind of Protein drinks do you drink? I have a chocolate whey Protein Drink that I like and I was wondering if that would work? Or is it a specific kind of Protein Drink? Also, I'm wondering, aren't Protein Drinks high in calories? I see there is a new Protein drink about by Special K and wondered if that would work too. Their bars are pretty good. Anyway, thanks!
BeenThereWasThat 2 Posted February 11, 2011 I am 6 mth post op and I still take Syntrax nectar Protein.. google it and look for samples before you invest lots of money in it. It is not for everyone but I love it!!!!
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted February 11, 2011 There is a thread in the food section where you can find samples of all sorts of Protein drinks. I would not stock up too much ahead of time because people say all the time that things they liked before surgery, they hated after surgery. There are many good Protein Drinks that are 120-150 calories and low in carbs. Some people just hate all Protein drinks!
MovinForward 2 Posted February 13, 2011 My nutrionist gave me a list of specific ones to try and to choose one on the list or I could alternate I just had to stick with the same kind in one day... So I would find out what they want you to do.. After the surgery they suggest the whey Protein which I got to go with the regular shakes.. I choose the SugarFree Carnation Instant Breakfast because I can mix it up and I dont have a funny smell of a bottle..hahah
Susanne 32 Posted February 16, 2011 My nutritionist told me that they are good if they have Protein isolate and NOT protein concentrate. Isolate is higher quality protein and usually more expensive but it is a protein that the body can absorb more easily and completely. I like Wheybolic Extreme from GNC, very high quality isolates I was told.
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted February 16, 2011 Hi Optasia, It is true as Daisy said, your tastebuds will probably change post op. I personally loved powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury after surgery and really couldn't tolerate much else at that time. Most everything made me want to gag. Unjury does have single pouches for samples, so that way you're not spending a ton on giant tubs. Good news is though my tastebuds have returned and I can again drink most of my other favorite Protein drinks.
Candice 1 Posted February 21, 2011 I love Isopure. The fruit punch flavor (Artic Punch?) over ice is REALLY good to me There are 40g of Protein per bottle. I tried a few and then bought a case from my surgeon's office. I have Mango Peach right now and it's pretty good. Very peachy. I couldn't have any red or purple dyes pre-op though, and the punch is red, so if you did want to try, make sure you're clear for red and purple dye post-op. Can'tweight 41 Posted February 21, 2011 I sooo hate the after taste of the Protein. Has anyone found ANY that have no funky after taste?? I did order a sample pack from Injury...it should be here Friday.
sdaniel105 0 Posted March 4, 2011 I will 2nd the vote for Isopure. Like the Grape Frost the best, but have tried Peach Mango, Blue berry and Alpine Punch. SD
AutumnLily 77 Posted March 5, 2011 Unjury and Syntrax Nectar are my favourite. I orderd sample packs from both companies and sample packs from another company. So far I can tolerate the other Proteins (some take a bit to get used to) but prefer to drink either the Unjury and Syntrax.< /p>

Some people complain about an "after taste" or a hint of clalkiness. Yes, it's there (the last reminds me of weak koolaid and it has the same mouthfeel as liquid jello), but they're not bad. I'm pre-op and trying out the drinks before my actual surgery.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted March 5, 2011 BSN lean dessert is my favorite. I like the chocolate fudge pudding. I like the banana pudding too and I mix the two together sometimes.
Megan 0 Posted March 14, 2011 I only like ready to drink (RTD) shakes because of the smell and the mess. I like Premier (available at Costco), Isopure (I only like the blue raspberry), Isopure smoothies (has sugar, but I believe it's from the fruit), and Labrada Lean Body. I also don't mind GNC's Total Lean shake. Oh Yeah! is also good. Atkins taste okay too, there's also a low carb Slim Fast which doesn't taste that bad if you're in a pinch. I went to GNC and Costo and bought one of each of the shakes they carry (and are good for you), some made me really gassy and some I preferred the taste of over others.
