About a week Post-Pt

Hi Everyone :) Im new here, and have enjoyed reading up on all the topics.. Its very helpful and nice to read from others in the same situation. I had my surgery on Feb.1 so tomorrow will be one week. I was in the hospital till the 4th. Things seem to be going alright, however my right side hurts alot, and down on the belly part WOW! talk about pain! feels like a torn muscle or something.. So bending over to get something on the floor can feel excruciating. or getting up and down or twisting at all.. Guess I wasnt too prepared, Left side feels good though. Also did any of you have trouble sleeping in bed..Ive been sleeping in the recliner which is so much better I tried to lay in bed and couldn't do it, hurt so bad!! I also have extreme Fatigue which is tough it seems to come and go.. I am on Percoset for pain But I do take 2 before bed to help me through the night and day time I take 1 every 4 -6hours unless Im very sore.. I looked forward to everyones responses and getting to know everyone around the board.:)

Hi - I think everyone is a little different from a pain tolerance perspective plus everyones surgery situation can vary. As for my experience, I was very muscle sore the first 3 days and swollen and "sore" at the incision sites the first week but was off pain meds by day 4 due to an allergic reaction. You sound like you have quite a bit of pain but that may be unique to your surgery situation. If it continues, you may want to let you doctor know just as a precaution. Good luck to you. Wonderful journey ahead..

Thankyou for your response :D

I did talk to the nurse at the office today, and she did inform me I am not suppose to really be doing anything at all that involves the abdominal muscles. I told her it was sooo bad when I dropped my pen on the floor.. She said I should not be doing anything like that all... I knew I was suppose to take it easy and lay low due to having other abdominal surgeries ( csection, gallbladder removed) ... No lifting and pulling or tugging ect.. But I didnt realize how next to nothing we can do. So from here on out Im totally glad I called!!!

The day of my discharge from the hospital we were waiting for my husband to arrive.. the nurse got the scripts all ready and the paperwork.. I got it all signed and she told me to just read it over.. When he got there I got help getting dressed and ready to go she gave me everything and off we went and honestly didnt realize she hadnt gone over it because it was like 6 at night I was tired and just wanted to go home..

I am really curious though did you all lay down normally once you got home??? Or did it take you a little while.

I am normally a back sleeper so I had no discomfort lying down. Getting up, however, required a waist twist that hurt for a week or so. I found that if I pushed myself up with my arms and then swung my legs over the bedside I sort of slithered out and on to my feet.

I have seen a number of people here sleeping in recliners because they are easier.

Congratulations on your surgery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
