post op bulimia

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery in June and I've been at goal or below for a couple of months now. My problem is that every week or two, I'll inadvertently eat too much and be absolutely miserable until I make myself throw up. I know it's not good for me and I'm not doing it to keep my weight down, but it's still disturbing. I'm not sure why I can't gauge how much to eat beforehand. I think I need to keep track of the events around these episodes so that I can see if there is some sort of pattern. Has this happened to anyone else? I'd love to hear how you managed it.

I had trouble in the early weeks postop with stuff getting "stuck" and needing to chuck up to feel better, but it was transitioning from liquids to thicker foods. Since I got to real foods, I haven't had a problem. Why don't you just serve yourself half as much as you think you want, and then go back for more if you are still hungry at the end? That is what I try to do now, because my instinct is still to fill up the plate. Now I get shoulder pain and hiccups if I eat too much, so I try to stop before I get to that point.

I've never gotten to the point where I threw up, but I've had maybe 2-3 experiences where I felt absolutely horrible because I inadvertently overate. I gave it some thought and realized it was always at social events and always with people who don't know about my sleeve. I'd never eat myself to the point of nausea at home or with friends who know about my surgery. It was a problem back in the days in particular, when I couldn't eat much and was self-conscious about that with strangers, as I didn't want random people to know. Do you think this could be the case for you? I found once I reasoned that through, I could deal with it, and I could choose foods that take up a lot of room on my plate, but not so much in my stomach (salads are the best for this), or repeatedly invite my boyfriend to "have another taste of this delicious steak!" at parties so people wouldn't pester me about eating too little or whatever.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
