Recommended Posts

HI Im 3 weeks post op! and everytime i bend over or lay on my side! the pain is awful in my tummy...just wondering if anyone else still had pain this far out??? No fever... or vomitting..just pain bad enough that you gotta move to get out of the position fast.... once you move to your back it stops... ..scared! help!

I had soreness that far out on my left side, not horrible pain. They did tell me the incision on the left side had the deepest sutures and that was what I was feeling.

Thanks for the chuckles.

My experience wasn't as bad as I didn't have an extreme amount of pain. My surgeon used a On-Q system (http://www.iflo.com/prod_onq_classic.php) that delivered pain medication internally. What a great thing!!! I had the morphine pump while in the hospital, which I used, but I never really had a great deal of pain. I came home with my "little buddy" and was given instructions to remove it myself. I really never took any other pain meds when I got home - didn't need them.

I would have gone through pain to get to where I am today however I was fortunate I didn't have to. Good luck to all of you beginning your journey.

Boy I'm not sure what they used on me for pain meds but all I felt was nauseas and very, very thirsty. I NEVER really had any pain, just an uneasy feeling.

Good post, made me laugh.

Doug, thanks so much for the blow by blow! I'd been looking for one as well your humor was definitely helpful too. And thanks to you too Myrori---I already have a problem not saying what a think, I dread what's going to happen when I'm on drugs :D.

I think they do the birthday thing to make sure you are you! Don't want to be giving morphine to the wrong patient, right? This is familiar from some previous surgeries. Now I remember I HAD the OnQ system when I had a Tummy Tuck. It was great. Note to self: ask surgeon about OnQ and/or morphine pump. I have no tolerance -- not low -- no -- tolerance for pain. Glad you are at the gym. Fantastic.

OMG! Probably not the best thing to read the night before my surgery. But thanks for the story. I'm praying for the no pain and glad to hear your doing so well.

What a great thread! My story was similar in a lot of ways. In fact most of my surgeries go pretty much along these lines. There are some minor differences but not enough to go line by line, ya know? This was much needed around here.

The only thing I'll point out is that, yes the morphine can have a negative effect on some folks. I'm one of them. In fact I never use mine and even tell my nurses to remove it completely once I'm coherent enough to. I have a high tolerance for pain in my favor so I'm able to do this. It makes me ill, nauseous and getting up with it for me is impossible, I always get faint.

Thanks Doug! I might even sticky this thread. ;-)

Funny story! I cant really say my experience was the same...Mine was just a day surgery and I was back at the hotel the night of surgery, I wish that I could have stayed in the hospital

Thank you for this hilarious and informing step-by-step journey. I am set for March 8th and, although I know it will be a little difficult at first, I'm quite sure it will be worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
