weightnomore 8 Posted February 5, 2011 This is the third time since my surgery two months ago. I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible pain from acid in my esophogus. This morning I was coughing and choking as if some went down my windpipe. It is very uncomfortable. I get up and take an antacid tablet and chew on some oyster crackers and it goes away in about 10-15 minutes, but boy is it painful. I'm going to call my doctor on Monday but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted February 5, 2011 Sometimes I get really bad reflux around bedtime - maybe 2-3 times a month? I don't take my Nexium anymore. I'll just pop an antacid and it goes away in a few minutes. Some ways to minimize your odds of getting reflux at night: 1) avoid eating right before bed, especially fattening or spicy foods 2) avoid coffee and alcohol in the evening 3) prop yourself up on pillows - or, alternatively, put some books under your bed legs at the head end so your bed is propped up. I've heard this also helps with puffy eyes in the am!
juliarh 35 Posted February 5, 2011 I did right after surgery, and it happened most often when I accidentally slept on my stomach -- I talked to my dr. about it and was able to double up on my Nexxium for a while until it went away. You might want to ask yours the same Hope you feel better soon!
Billy363627 15 Posted February 5, 2011 My doc prescribed me protonics and I am a dedicated follower of it.. I know from my past I have struggled with acid and I know he told me that I probably would battle it 6 to 8 months out of surgery.. Well I told him that;s fine then just keep me on it a year and I would try to get off of it then. I'm not taking any chances my script coverage plan is too good not to stay on top of it....I would at least call your doc and get his opinion he might want you on a ppi for a couple of more months..goodluck
