Winter makes me hungry!

Recommended Posts

Winter Winter go away!!!!! Before VSG I always got even more hungry during the winter months. Guess I was a bear in my past life. Feel the hunger and want to eat like a bear getting ready to hibernate. Thankful for the VSG surgery. Still having the cold weather only hunger. Regular days I could care less about food. Crave fluids only. Anyone else have this quirky hunger drive?

For me it is because I associate winter stormy weather with hearty Soups and stews, hot beverages, and doing your best to stay dry and cozy. So when it is overcast and cloudy and rainy, I have an automatic urge to curl up in a chair with a steaming bowl of something yummy and a good book. =)

Same here, but here in the Midwest, it's also because you are staying indoors more, no grilling lean chicken breast - just generally a decreased amount of exercise. I am also getting bored a little more easily, and while I was never eating because I was stressed or frustrated, I am noshing because of boredom.

And yeah, I could keep myself busy but there is only so much I can do :-)

What winter doesn't have as much for me is cocktail hour - in the summer, it is much more tempting to crash on the patio after work with a nice margarita, cosmo, classic daiquiri, lemon drop and all this good stuff (no mixes though, all "home made")

I'm always hungry! Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall. . . I'm starvin like Marvin . . . ugh oh well, here is what i've done about it. . . first i stop and listen to my tummy, is it REALLY hungry or is it head hunger (usually head hunger) if it's head hunger well then I'll drink a defizzed diet soda or flavored water, crystal light or something. . . if it's real hunger then have a Protein Shake, or a Protein food, tuna, egg, meat, Jerky, or Pork rinds. . . ugh life is nasty to the overweight! :o

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
