How do you beat the heat?

Recommended Posts

What does everyone do to keep their exercise going through the hot part of the season? My wife and I usually walk together in the early evenings, but there isn't enough lighting for her to feel safe working later at night.

Thanks for any ideas!

We live at the beach (cheating!!) and we use the pool...a community pool. We started by just walking back and forth in the Water. Eventually we started swimming. Actually, Water exercise is best for many people, especially the MO who might hurt their knees and such...I'm one of those.

Do you have Y nearby with a pool?

We just got a small pool for our daughter, just big enough to wade in. Maybe there would be enough resistance in there to give her some benefit. Thanks Sue

We just bought a pool today at Walmart. It's not huge but it is 18 across and 4 foot deep. You'd be surprised at how much exercise you can get in it. Was very easy to set up. They are on sale for 299.97 reg. 488.00.

They have the 24 feet wide and 4 feet deep but they're 600.00, that might be a good idea if your not near Water. We live about 1 mile from Barkley Lake and about 8 miles from Kentucky lake but no ocean, Yahhhhhhh.

Got hubby to buy me a treadmill and I turn on the air-con and walk away! I also use a nearby hotel with an outdoor pool which is gorgeous in the summer.

I swim.... I ride my bike and then swim. During the heat swimming is the key!

I bought a recumbent exercise bike and I get up an hour early and ride with a fan on me, while I read or watch TV... I have young children, so I have to do it before they get up. I also try to take a walk by mid-morning, before it gets way too hot...

I agree with the above posts...swimming is great in summer or a treadmill placed right under the air-con!

I live in AZ! Does that tell you anything? A few days ago the temp. was 115. ACK!! The only thing that saves me is to go to a gym that has ice cold air conditioning. I'm looking into buying a treadmill & setting it up right in front of the TV. :) The fan blowing on you sounds like a great idea.

Anybody have a treadmill that they absolutely LOVE?!?! I have no clue where to even begin looking. I don't want a cheap one!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
