I am 3 weeks out minus a day and the last 4 days have been horrible for me. I feel sick when i eat and i feel sick when i don't eat.

I know doesn't make sense but has anyone gone through this??? I almost feel like I want to go back to just liquids.

Any suggestions will help.

I had a lot of nausea right around 2-3 weeks post-op despite feeling great the first 2 weeks, and I've seen other people on the forum with the same issue. I went to the emerg, they said nothing was wrong with me - mind you, they did 0 tests besides a basic abdo exam for peritonitis. The emerg Dr. suggested I double my Nexium. I called Dr. Aceves 2 days later, as it happened on the weekend, and he said the same thing. I used it 2x a day for a few days but it didn't seem to make a difference, and since the pills were pricy, I stepped down back to 1 pill/day. Then the nausea just went away as randomly as it had started. Moral of the story - probably nothing bad if it's just nausea, but if you feel any pain and feel extreme discomfort/pain when someone presses on your belly, then go to the ER.

My surgery was 12/7/10 and I was nausious from day 1! It turned out that my gallblader was full of stones and my pancreis was inflamed! A week after gallblader surgery the naussia is finally gone.

But another thing is if you are dehydrated it will cause severe naussia.

You have to focus on your fluids and drink even if you are nausious!

I will be 3 weeks post-op tomorrow, have had a few episodes of nausea. However, since yesterday, been nauseated constantly, around the clock, and I DON'T LIKE IT! Hope this isn't going to last too long! unsure.gif

I also had bad nausea about 3-4 weeks out from surgery. I would get nauseous drinking water! It went away after about 2 weeks. Now I only get nauseous when I eat too fast, which I am trying not to do!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
