What did you do to break your stall?

Recommended Posts

Just curious what others have done/changed in their routine/diet that broke their stall? This was the first week (11 weeks post-op) that I have lost NOTHING!! LOL There were a couple of weeks here and there that was very small numbers (.4 of a lb) but never a 0! I'm not upset about it though because at least I didn't gain! YAY! LOL But as stated, I am wondering what others have done to get through their stalls and get the numbers moving again?

First of all be proud of yourself you have had incredible weight loss..4.5 average for 11 weeks....Wow!!!! From reading things from Tiffkins I have learn the best way to break a stall is to throw the body something that it is not used too..Adjust your caloric intake, reduce the number or carbs your consuming by half.. Your body is a everlearning so once you get on a routine your body learns to adjust to the progam. Say if you ran 1 mile every day for example your body would get used to running that one mile and you would have to increase the distance that you ran to make your body burn more calories.. If you have a routine you have to throw the body a different routine for a week or two in hopes of breaking the stall..I look forward to reading your posts in the future, but for me I truely am impressed with your weight loss.

My first stall, and I say it that way because I'm sure there will be others, came at three months after surgery. It lasted almost four weeks, which with my initial amazing weight loss, was frustrating. I came to terms with reality during the first week of the stall, and for me, the reality was, and continues to be, that there is no way this plateau can have a long lasting affect because I'm still obese and I am eating 600-1000 calories per day. Knowing that it couldn't be sustainable, I kept doing what I was doing, diet and exercise, and maintained discipline. Lo and behold, the stall broke and I dropped ten pounds in a week. Keep the faith and don't worry, everyone's body adjusts differently, just know that it can last a short or long time, that doesn't matter. What is most important is building new habits that are sustainable for the rest of your lifetime. Congratulations on your weight loss to date!

When I stalled for 3 weeks in a row (and each week I did lose but it was so little to me that is a stall) - I started logging my foods religiously, started incorporating more healthy carbs to my diet, and started bumping up my workouts.

It worked. I've lost 10 Lbs in the 2 weeks that followed. I haven't lost any since that 10 lbs but it's because of mother nature, which is fine.

Enjoy your successes! I honestly think this is the first time in my life that I've gone this amount of time with such consistent weight loss, besides my band where I was losing for the first 5 months. I'm almost there now and I really don't see me changing anything up.

Keep in mind too, you will just have to find the winning combo for you as far as diet and exercise. Also, most everyone goes through a stall at 3 weeks out, so you might just need to wait it out.

Good luck!

I ate more, precisely the day before I broke my stall I had a grilled cheese sandwich-serious.

haha I do not doubt this. You're body got confused by the extra calories, carbs & fat probably. Then going back to the normal routine should ride out even a few more pounds. Good for you!

I stalled at 6 weeks out.. Well i hadn't had a bowel moment since, now they are so irregular. So i took a laxetive and drink lots of Water and boost my Protein and two days later the weight was melting off.10 pound in a week.. I was going all day once the laxtive kicked in so now what I do, if by day three, I havent had a bowel movement I clean my system out. Although you are not eating alot, it's not good for the food to just sit (you Know)..

Thanks everyone!! I am VERY happy with my weight loss thus far but I just want to keep going!! hehe Protein I'm good to go, my average is 80g a day! This week I am going to work on my Water intake because I know I'm no where near 64oz a day! I also plan to start mixing up my workouts to doing a 5K MWF and something else on TTH! I just hope I can work out the rest of this week as we are supposed to have another winter storm :( BOO! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
