I've been eating Greek yogurt for so long

Recommended Posts

I have been eating greek yogurt since May 2010. My NUT recommended it and I switched.

Well, my girls still like my "old" yogurt which was Yoplait Light (the ones in the white and light blue containers, pretty sure they are top sellers for Yoplait because they sure do sink a lot of ad money into this particular yogurt...it's the one with all the "flavors" like pineapple upside-down cake, and boston creme pie, and lemon cream pie, key lime pie, etc.) So anyway, tonight my girls wanted yogurt and fresh strawberries for dessert. I split the container of vanilla into 2 small bowls, added fruit and then I licked the spoon from the yogurt container.

ICK.

Totally nasty disgusting stuff. It tasted sooooooo sweet, and so, well, chemical. I can't believe I used to eat that stuff.

Time to get my kids hooked on greek yogurt as well.

What are the brands of syrups that you use? I need to purchase some for my next phase!

Thanks

I agree. Regular yogurt is just icky now. I stick with greek yogurt as well. If I want to add sweetness, I just add sugar free pudding powder, or sugar free syrups to sweeten it up. I still use it for all recipes that call for sour cream. I rarely buy sour cream anymore.

Davinci and Torani are the brands that seem to be most popular. You can find them at Sam's club. I think you can find them at other retailers.

Have you noticed that most Yoplait products contain high fructose corn Syrup? Why do they do that!?angry.gif

Cost Plus (World Market) used to sell Torani for CHEAP! Like $5 for a big bottle. I went in the other day and saw they are now $6.99, d*mmit!

OH well, I still use them. I put them in my yogurt and Decaf coffee mostly. Torani is made wtih Splenda.

I don't think it is just Yoplait, I know A LOT of yogurts use that. It is hard to find yogurt made with plain old sugar anymore. I think Moutain High is a brand that comes to mind that doesn't use the junk sweetners.

BevMo! also sells the Torani SF syrups. They have all kinds of flavors, I have six at home right now - in case anyone has this retailer in their area.

I don't really eat yogurt, and I've had bottles of the Yoplait Light in my fridge. I feel bad because I don't want to eat them. They don't even taste that good to me anymore and not worth the calories and junk that its filled with. I've tried Greek Yogurt and didn't really care for it. It seemed chalky and that kind of texture always yucked me. It's worse now post surgery. I guess I just won't be eating yogurt ever anymore. I used to really like it a lot so it's just strange to me to not eat it anymore.

My tastes has changed a lot since surgery - I've noticed. I seem to like more fresh foods too, can't deal much with canned this or packaged that. I suppose that's not so much a bad thing!

Anyway, Greek Yogurt is MUCH better for you than Yoplait - that is true. Great idea on thinking of getting your daughters to switch over. :)

I just went out and bought a bottle of white chocolate and a bottle of peach Torrani at Cost Plus....I found a bottle of SF terramisu and a bottle of pomegranate at Ross too...some off brand....

I have no Idea how they will taste, I will break them out later and see!

There is definitely a difference in the taste and texture of Greek yogurt too. Choboni's is so smooth and creamy.

Dannon is now making a greek yogurt which is not very good at all. The other two good brands are Oikos and Fage.

I have tried them all, (and I usually buy according to what is on sale) but my all time fav has to be the Fage. LOVE IT. I've even tried the Kroger brand, blech, totally disgusting and not worthy of me even adding my SF Syrup to.

I already have one kiddo liking the Fage, just need to work on kiddo #2 (aka the picky sister). It's going to be a crazy yogurt bill around here on grocery day once hubby gets sleeved in March!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
