Hi, My BMI was around 36 when I had surgery. I was about 200lbs and my original goal was to be below 150. I reached that in 4 months so I changed my goal to 135 I am in the 4os now ( haven't been able to weigh myself in over a week because I am out of town). My insurance would not cover the sleeve saying my high blood pressure and cholesterol were not enough with a BMI below 40 so I went self paid. I did get heat too from the doctors of my ***.

I was a revision from lapband. When I had my sleeve my BMI was 31.1, and within just a few months I was at goal with a BMI of 24. I had not lost any weight in over 3 yrs with the band, so the sleeve got me to where I needed to be. Don't let anyone tell you your BMI is too low. Yes, this is drastic surgery. But I know without it I most likely would have gone back up to my pre-band BMI of 39.

My BMI was 35.1 when I went for the initial weigh-in! I did gain about 12 pounds during the pre-op phase, but still received these looks from folks---and even a few outright questions---of why are YOU doing this? Personally, I'm thrilled! The results have been better than anticipated and I love the way I'm feeling!

I just wanted to update this thread. I'm 12 weeks out from surgery yesterday. I haven't felt this good in many years. I never feel weak or shaky. As you see from my ticker I've lost bout 35 lbs (32 on my scale). This is a slower weight loss than people with a higher BMI but I'm already getting close to a normal BMI and I just bought cute jeans at the Gap! I know this is the "honeymoon" phase but I can't imagine gaining weight back because its so so easy to control portions/Kcal with the sleeve. I get hungry but I'm completely full and comfortably satisfied with a few bites of food. Usually I choose high Protein foods every few hours-if I eat junk I feel sick and don't do it again. I'm having fun with the C25K program and weight training. Sure the surgery is major but there is no way I'd look and feel this good without it. I have no complications-no reflux at all. I'm 14 lbs away from my original goal of 140-I may go a bit lower.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
