Newgirl 2 Posted January 30, 2011 How long did you use your spirometer(lung air capacity device) after released from the hospital? The hospital just said to continue at home, but I didn't ask how long.

The hospital just said to continue at home, but I didn't ask how long. if you are not a smoker and you are walking up &about, you don't have to keep using spirometer, it is to help prevent pneumonia; it makes you do deep breathing . unless you have a cough or a smoker you are probably fine to stop. Foxbins 625 Posted January 30, 2011 My doctor wanted me to do it 10X each morning and night for two weeks. This is because sometimes the instruments push on your lung and collapse it a little during surgery and the spirometer helps you to fully inflate your lungs, prevents secretions from pooling in the bottom and causing pneumonia. It takes less than 3 minutes a day and I was happy to do it for the two weeks. I am not a smoker.
