Need of support, not filled yet

I am 14 days post op and I wanted to hear some stories about how it was banded without your first fill. I am finding that I am not really hungry but when I do eat mushies I see myself overeating. I'm sure this is natural without restriction. Can you give me some advice as to how not to overeat before my first fill on July 17th. I can't wait to feel that restricted feeling like I did when I got my band and I was swollen.:hungry:

Julie,

I am getting my first fill tomorrow. I don't know if it is a good thing or not, but here is how I handled it. I have already lost 24 lbs., which "aint bad!" So, I have taken this opportunity to eat a little more and some of the things I have been missing (no sweets). I see it as a little reprieve. Yet, I am ready to be filled, and can't wait to start losing again.

I counted Weight Watcher points to keep me on track. I got my first fill on Friday and I have definately found that I stay full much longer and it is pretty easy not to over-do it.

Good luck!

Julie,

I was starving before my first fill. I caved in in the beginning and let myself start to revert to my old bad habits. It finally ocurred to me to snap out of it and start to fix it. I had to realize that just because I had this band that didn't mean that I would automatically lose any weight. I had to put in the effort and work.

I stopped eating ALL sugar. It really stopped the sweet cravings almost immediately. I started consuming more Protein. I faithfully drink tons and tons of Water. I joined weight watchers to track my intake and to make sure that I was consuming enough to lose weight. I got off my butt and exercised.

It is slowly making the scale finally move, but mostly I am not starving anymore. I would like to eat less than I do now, but at least I feel better about what is happening with my body.

Julie,

I wish I had something different to report, but I was miserable from the time I moved to solid food to the time I got my first fill (3 weeks). I gained a few lbs during that period from making really poor food choices and having no restriction at all and being unsuccessful at eating like a bandster without that restriction.

In comes the first fill. Ahh, relief! Then immediately thereafter (a week apart, each) the second and third fills. Glory! What was that sound? Weight falling off left! Weight falling off right! Now THAT'S what I'm taking about! With restriction, I was excited to make really good food choices and get plenty of Water and exercise. I'm riding the wave. You will too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
