I'm being sleeved in 2 days and maybe my situtation is unique. I travel extensively for work. One year I was on the road 49 of 52 weeks. I consistently average 200+ nights a year in hotels (Marriott Platinum Premier) and accumulate and use tons of miles and points.

I'm going to be home a week before I have to go on the road again for a week. I know it won't be easy but work is work and have to do it. I'm going to have to map out what I can take, get through TSA screening, what medicines I have to take, account for time zone differences, the works. My plan is to share my stories and hear what others have to offer. Maybe through communication we can share tips and make the process easier for others.

I got needles filled with anti-coagulant through OK. They did cut off the lock on my case (probably due to the needles). Just have a spare lock in case the same happens to you. I flew (45 min flight) 4 days after my op but only had the plication, so hopefully you'll be fine a week afterwards.

Not intentionally scaring you, but have you discussed this travel with your doctor? Because I believe the altitude changes make it harder. I knew a man that did not do well here and I know in the first weeks he went to Mexico for surgery and then to Australia. He definitely did not do well, I don't know if the travel had much to do with it.

Also, when he got sick in Australia I believe he had a second surgery, which was botched.

Sometimes I think people do not realize how major this surgery is. You need to take care of you, very good care of you. Our sleeves can only go through so much without popping a leak.

I wore flight socks for 2 weeks post op (I hated the surgical stockings) and my doc was OK with me doing a 45 min flight 4 days out. I did a 10+ hour flight 10 days after my op and he was fine with that too - but he wouldn't have been happy with me taking such a long flight any sooner. As pumpkin07 says, it's good to check with the doc, which is what I did.

I flew Australia to east coast US 3 weeks postop to the day. I wore the TED hose, drank Water, walked as much as possible, and took an aspirin before I left. No problems.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
