Please HELP... What does fullness feel like????

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.. I'm almost 3 weeks post-op.. I feel great ..have lost 27 lbs! My question and concern is I don't know what full feels like!!? I never had a problem with getting my liquids in and drinking my Protein shakes down... but when it comes down to mushies and and soft solids I have never felt restriction!! I keep my serving size to 1/2 cup and dont eat more than that ever at a time ..at 1/2 cup I feel great but not full or anything..am I supposed to feel anything?? My husband thinks I'm not eating enough but I'm scared to eat anymore than 1/2 cup because I don't want to feel pain or discomfort and thats what my new stomach should hold!!

alma :)

hey there

I was sleeved on the 12th and going through the same things. Wondering what it feels like to be full on this stomach. Through talking to some others and then experiencing it, for me it is when there is a lump right around the solar plexes (right in between the nipples). It just sort of just sits there and then there is a bit of a tightness going down to the stomach.

Much different with the old belly....lol

I know when I get the full feeling its goes to my chest like the food is sitting right in between my boobs. If I just take one more bite then my mouth starts to Water and I know I've over done it because I feel like getting sick. I'm almost 3 months out and if I push it I might be able to get 4 oz in and then I get that Thanksgiving full feeling and I'm miserable for about 30 mins.

I also had no sense of fullness when I was three weeks out. I could drink Water just like I could before surgery. Once I started on solid food it was all different with lots of restriction.

One of the biggest troubles I had pre-op was that I was never full. I could completely override the subtle fullness feeling and stuff myself till eventually I was really hurting with bloat and over did it. Not just at Thanksgiving, this was like a daily thing for me.

I now cannot eat very much and I get an indistinct full feeling, If Iam talking or absorbed in TV I can sometimes miss it. I just get the feeling, "Hey I'm full I don't want any more". If I ignore it and take maybe 2 more bites the pain starts, intense stomach pain that radiates up my esophagus. It lasts maybe 10-15 minutes.

FULL always very subtle, it is MORE distinct now and the consequences are much more severe.

I was sleeved on the 12th and having the same issues. I think a lot of my problem is eating too fast (old habits die hard). I'm learning that eating slower allows me to recognize the full feeling before I overdo it. It's very hard for me to slow down, especially M-F. I work in a very busy doctor's office and fast is our normal pace... even for lunch!

I am two weeks out, and starting purees today. I had 1/4 cup of cottage cheese for Breakfast (I chose that amount from what others here have said...thanks) and I ate it really slowly. Right after I finished the little bowl, I hiccuped 5 times... just like some of you have described, and I figured I must be full! I could kind of feel the cottage cheese squishing around in there, maybe in my deep throat a bit, but not unpleasant or anything. I know some of you describe cottage cheese as a slider, but I think that was my first real experience with restriction. Im sure denser things will be even more evident. I am so glad to experience this, I have next to none drinking Soups and such.

I am on mushies and have overdone it a couple of times ... both times when I ate too fast. In both cases I had nausea afterwards for 10 - 30 minutes (didn't vomit, thank goodness). It is NOT a good feeling. The second time I did it I was really mad at myself ... I was eating dinner with my husband (who has not been sleeved) and I think subconsciously I was trying to keep up with his pace, even though I deliberately chewed chewed chewed and waited what I thought was a decent time between bites. Note to self, it is probably a bit early to be eating meals with DH until I am used to the new pace of eating. He can eat an entire meal in the time it takes me to eat 3 or 4 little bites. It has been awkward to say the least. It weirds him out that I spend minutes at a time just doing nothing at the table but waiting between bites. This is one thing I never really considered prior to beginning regular meals so it is another new experience to get used to.

That is funny about DH, I sat down two days ago with mine, me with 4oz Tomato Soup and he had the rest of the Tomato Soup and grilled cheese and crackers in his Soup. He first was so loud as usual and ate like a cow, then wolfed it all down and I wasn't even half way done, just sitting there between each bite, making sure it all went down okay.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
