Bob's Burger and Brew

I am just past 5 months since surgery.

Our friend got his tax money and wanted to take us to dinner so we went to Bob's Burger and Brew (kind of like a red robin but 10 times better). They had no kids menu so I ordered a regular meal.

Fish dinner

Three generous portions of ocean fresh cod, hand-dipped in our special batter, deep fried in pure all vegetable oil, and served on a bed of leaf lettuce, tartar sauce and lemon wedges. Soup or salad. Baked potato, Fries, or Jo-Jo's. Garlic bread on the side.

Needless to say I knew I would be bringing home most of the dinner.

Everyone else ordered fancy burgers and soda pop-I got Water

When dinner came I was shocked. They probably used 6 potatoes per person for the jo-jo's, the burgers were the size of my face oozing and dripping with all the fixin's, and the pile of onion rings must have come from at least 3 medium onions. It was insane, the portion sizes were ridiculous.

I got a nice salad delivered w/my meal and I picked at it dipping some lettuce into the dressing, then gave most of it away to my companions.

My dinner was huge. My dinner alone could have fed me, my daughter, and my spouse. The fish pieces were each about the size of my hand, the 2 garlic bread's were 1 inch thick and as big as the fish, and the jo-jo's took up most of the plate, which was one of the kind you usually get at mexican restaurants...oblong and big.

I ate 3 medium bites of the fish 2 jo-jo's, 1 bite of bread, and then it started.... DUH DUH DUUUUH.

My mouth started watering, but not in a good way...usually it means I am about to hurl. My chin got all wobbley and I felt like I had the alien baby in my lower gut trying to break out.

I stopped eating immediately and waited about 5 minutes and it got better, then it got worse. I ended up having to run out of the restaurant and drive home while in major pain. Our friend had to bring home my spouse and daughter. I ended up laying on the couch for an hour till I felt better.

The crazy thing is that I barely ate anything. I am thinking it may have been the salad, combined with the fried food. We rarely eat fried and I think I just can't handle it. I thought for sure I was past the vomit/explosive rear end phase but I guess not.

I realize I have become a bit snobby about food portions as well, whether that is positive or not I do not know. I can not imagine that I could have eaten a dinner that big prior to surgery, yet my dinner party, as well as those seated around us were munching away w/o a problem. The amount of food at our table was about the amount that we might eat over a 4-5 day period. My thoughts toward food have really changed these past months, and it isn't like I was trying to change it just evolved.

Anyway, I am just not that hot on eating out anymore simply because I feel like I am wasting money. I can eat about $1 worth of food, but paying $15. Luckily I was able to convince them to forgo the Casino Buffet tonight...but I know that trip is coming up soon...my friends and family love themselves some casino fixins!

After reading that list, it sure wasn't the salad that was the culprit. You said the JoJos were the same size as the fish, which was the size of your hand? And you ate two of them? Just imagining cramming that much into my sleeve makes me sympathetically ill.

Lettuce sometimes has that effect on my lately, and I'm almost six months out. Some days I can do a bite or two, other times, not so much. Fried foods, on the other hand, always have that effect. Perhaps it was a combination of the two.

Sorry to be dense, what are JoJo's??? I kept re-reading that to see if I could get a clue. lol.

I think the fried stuff is always bad. Sorry your evening was ruined. And I agree about the portion sizes being way out of control. No wonder America has an obesity problem when restaurant food portions are gigantic and everyone thinks of them as "normal".

Isn't it amazing how we look at food now! I'm the same way and I was commenting about certain things and was called a hypocrite! Can you BELIEVE THAT!!!! I can't handle going out to eat much either so what i've started doing is learning to cook what my husband wanted to go out for. . . for example I made black pepper chicken stirfry, white rice and egg rolls for him on Friday, of course we're still eating off it cause it made alot and of course with our surgeries I'm lucky if i can even eat 1 eggroll! But i degress, the point is its cheaper to cook it at home then go out. . . I bought ALL the stuff to fix this meal for $14.00 and we still have left overs, if it was go out we'd spent about $25/30 dollars. . .

I know myself if I was to attempt any fried food right now I would be right to the bathroom. It has been such a long time since I have had fried, so I know that I am not going to even attempt fried after the sleeve. I know it will not end well for me. Two I think she was talking about potatos or potato wedges when she said jo jo's. Anyway fried is out for me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
