Just Wondering?

Recommended Posts

Through bad choices and head hunger issues I have discovered that, should I reach goal and enter into maintenance phase, 1100 calories will do it. I have eaten between 1000-1200 calories for most days in the past 2 weeks and have not lost an ounce. I now know that I cannot have food around me at all, beyond what is meant to be eaten for that meal alone, otherwise, I will eat it. Clearly I will have to join a support group or something when I get home. I'm so scared of not making goal, of gaining, of this not working, it's miserable to feel this way.

I'm at a major stall again myself Globetrotter, last time i was stalled for 3 months. . .it was irratating but i managed through it as i (and you) will this time too. . . i try to stay under 1200 calories daily, it's tough but together we can do this. . . are you feeling any better now? Did you get some Vitamins? SAM-e? Good luck! It's scarey but we'll get through it!

It would be nice to hear about people who have had their stomachs removed for other reasons too -- maybe cancer or ulcers?? Maybe there's some research on how their smaller stomachs have reacted with time . . ..

My greatgrandmother had 90% of her stomach removed about 20 years ago. She's having some digestive issues - not terribly familiar with them as I don't see her every often because she lives abroad, but I know she gets diarrhea, particularly steatorrhea. However, she's 91, and who doesn't have at least SOME digestive issues at that age? So it's hard to tell if it's from the gastrectomy or just old age. It doesn't make sense for steatorrhea to happen because of a gastrectomy, it's usually due to a pancreatic or biliary cause. She was plump, but not obese before her cancer dx and surgery. She lost weight after; she is now thin, but not emaciated or anything. She eats normal meals - my mom mentioned that she came by for dinner recently and had a small bowl of Soup, 3-4 oz ground beef, and maybe a cup of mashed potatoes, and then some tea.

I've read of one VSGer on this forum that didn't really lose. I can't remember her name I'm afraid, the surgery didn't help her with restriction or her hunger, but I've not read too many VSGers with this issue. I guess most are likely to keep it to themselves if they're not doing well, as nobody wants to advertise lack of success.

Yeah, I think I know who you are talking about! I don't remember the username, but she had her VSG somewhere in the South in the States and then she noticed complete lack of restriction in less than a year. She had her stomach imaged and was told that her pouch completely stretched out! I think she said the Dr. told her she had hyperelastic stomach tissue or something. I remember her asking for input on whether she should repeat the surgery....talk about bad luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
