Well as of January 24, 2011, I have been sleeved! I had my surgery performed by Dr. David Le of South San Francisco Kaiser Bariatrics and am very pleased with the outcome. I would like to applaud everyone that created and runs this site as well as all the members. Months of research didn't compare to the wealth of information obtained by all of you, so thank you all!

So far it has gone EXTREMELY well! I am so thankful for the member who posted about gas pains feeling like a heart attack. If I had not read your post about how bad the gas pains can be. I would of been SURE I was having a heart attack! So, after surgery I was quite nauceous, but with many injections of different anti nausea meds,I came out on top. I did have a hydromordone drip which was wonderful for any pain managemnet, but found that I really didn't have much pain, just gas pain. So every hour my little butt got out of bed and walked the halls for about 15 minutes to help the gas to come out or absorb. It never really came out, so I just keep walking. After having an allergic reaction to the hydromordone, they switched me to morphine, and I could tell that it wasn't as strong as the previous medication, but it helped to manage some of the gas pains. I did have some trouble trying to eat , my new little stomach does not like cold foods and it hurt trying to eat a bite of Jello, so I mostly had warm chicken broth. I would have to say that for me, that has been the worst part of this journey so far, learning how with every drink I am putting air into my stomach so with every drink I have to focus on burping. As of today I have showered and shaved (ahh) and have not needed any pain medications! I have been able to eat applesauce without any pain in my tummy, but still have to concentrate on burping! I do find it diffult, if not short of a miracle, to get 64 ounces of Water into my body as well as any Protein Shakes of meals. That seems to be the challenge so far for me. All in all, all is well and I am sooo glad I decided to have it done! Day 3 and down 10 lbs already!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
