pattimomof3nj 21 Posted February 7, 2011 I was having maybe 1 or 2 BMs every 2 weeks, then I noticed that I was going everyday! Thought I was coming down with a bug or something but felt fine otherwise. Then noticed that I was having a little acid back up in my throat and was trying to think what I was doing different that could be causing the acid, notice didn't worry about the BMs. I started eating 6 bite size pieces of cantaloupe at lunch everyday. the cafeteria at work starting putting it on the salad bar and it just looked so darn good that I had to have it! it cost over a buck a day for those 6 pieces, but they got the plumbing moving along! So this weekend I went to the store and got my own, and I will just deal with the extra little bit of acid, cause the weight is also starting to fall off again!!! robzeb 0 Posted February 10, 2011 My sleeve surgery was 1-27-11 and had diarrhea almost everyday for 10 days then it stopped. 2 days later I had the worst bout of Constipation I have ever had in my life. My doc advised Miralax which took about 5 hours to work but it did and I felt like a new person. For new patients I would definitelty have some on hand just in case, I will now incorporate some benefiber regularly to make sure it doesn't happen again! My nutritionist said it should get better once you incorporate some whole grains into your diet.
KabinKitty 11 Posted February 10, 2011 I have used Miralax as a last resort I prefer to go to root cause and avoid meds if I can, but that's just me. I knew they woud have me drink that white chalky stuff for my leak test after surgery and be killing all the good bacteria in my gut with antibiotics after surgery. I had some Yoplus waiting for me at home. For the first few days at home I had diarreah (probably due to the artificial sweeteners in the hospitals popsickles) then nothing for 2 days. I ate the Yoplus every day and everything has been great! Yoplus has Antioxidants, Vitamins A & E, Fiber and probiotic cultures, Calcium and Vitamin D. It's helping to get the good bacteria stripped from my digestive tract back to normal levels. Also, that constrast material tends to set up like cement in my digestive tract. My BM's so far have all been orangeish. I suspect the Protein drinks are the biggest reason, since that's where most of my nutrition is coming from. I'm introducing pureed baby food meats and veggies back in. Almost makes me feel like I'm eating like a normal person at 1 wk out! I'm getting some pureed fruits today or I'll just use my Magic Bullet!!
meggiep 57 Posted February 13, 2011 Once you are eating solids again I have a suggestion that has been really effective for me (I am not sleeved yet but am on medication for chronic pain with a huge problem of constipation)- dried unsulpher apricots work every time. I imagine for chewing to mush they should be soaked in Water first or stewed. Recently I had a new injury meaning more medication and started to have the problem and had stopped the apricots- started again- voila- problem gone. They offer a lot of other Vitamins and minerals as well. Hope this helps! Obviously not during the non solid phases.
angelantx 0 Posted February 25, 2011 MY biggest problem is it all or nothing. i'm either not going at all or its very loose!! no in between. after a day or two of nothing but gas i will use miralax...and then i'll just have diarrhea once or twice. i can't seem to get things under control. but i don't eat any bread and hardly any fruit...other than frozen fruit in my Protein Shakes. i usually eat 1 or 2 fiber tabs a day to help supplement...
