And not doing too good. I'm still in the hospital. I had a lot of nausea and vomiting so they put me back on iv fluids. I'm going to try again today. Just kinda feeling like what the heck did I do to myself? I'm having problems with my iv. They have changed the site about 4 times and poked me about 10. Any words of encouragement. I miss my son and just want to go home.

The nausea is probably a bad reaction to the anesthesia. I was pretty sick for about 4 hours after surgery and they kept giving me anti nausea meds. Walking helped me a lot in the hospital. I walked every hour, after my first walk I was still nauseous and got sick but I think the walking helped move the anesthesia from my body. I hear you on the iv sight. Before surgery they couldn't get a vein and poked me 7 times till they got a small vein. Then when I woke up from surgery I had two different iv sights. Things will get better. Each day you will notice a difference. I know its hard to be away from home and family and being in the hospital you do not get much rest. Just try to stay positive. Things will get better.

Thank you. I hope so. They did an upper gi and said no leak but a lot of inflammation and swelling is making stuff go down real slow. Its been 3 days so that has me worried. I think that vomiting is making me a little gun shy about trying liquids again.

Yeah, it takes some time for the swelling to go down. How are you doing with ice chips? Are they giving you lots of anti nausea medicine? When you try liquids again sip really tiny sips. Sometimes if you drink too much at one time it may make you sick. I know I thought I was sipping small amounts but really I needed to take even smaller sips! Are you still on pain meds? Do you get nauseous from those?

Ice chips are hard for me. I've been doing better today. They want us to get in at least 4 1oz med cup of Fluid an hour. They give me pain meds and ant nausea meds too. I can maybe get in 60-90 cc an hour.

I was sleeved on the 24th and what helped me was not having anything cold, that hurted my tummy. warm chicken broth worked really well for me. Hope you feel better.

Whats happening now is the worst part of your journey. It will get better and better. No one plans to have to stay in the hospital, but keep your eye on the prize, this will just be a distant memory soon.

Hang in there, I was sleeved on the 24th too and the first couple of days were really more than I bargained for. Today is day 4 and I am finally starting to feel like myself again. I couldn't keep anything down but ice chips at first either but today I can drink milk, broth and everything. Just keep trying and I promise, it will get better :)

I was sleeved on the 24th as well, and the first 24hr was ridiculous!! I couldn't even keep my eyes open, and I know the nausea was awful! My doc actually sent me home with anti nausea medicine that melts under your tongue...it does get better though...I'm able to tolerate some broth, and actually had some yogurt today! Hang in there!

I was sleeved on the 19th. This is just a little stumbling block due to anesthesia . You are gonna be fine. I promise you it won't stay like this. It's so worth it. I predict you will be much better in 24-48 hours!!!

We've all been in the same boat. The first few days I find myself thinking "Oh heavens what did I do to myself?" Just keep thinking of the long-term goal. We're in this together ladies!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
